I tried with my wired desktop, and got marginally better DLs, but not-so-good ULs:
      6453/2236
      4806/1341
      7091/2919

dunno, mebbe time of the day?

I did start the thread thinking I could do better, but I see that I should not complain; my uploads are better than most, though many of you are doing grand on the downloads. Of course - Michael's figures boggle the mind. Had never heard of FIOS before, and they are not available here as yet, but shall be on the lookout for it.

$9 a month does sound tempting, eccentric; wonder....

Late last summer AT&T ran fiber optic into my community and began offering there U-Verse bundled service at a great speed and price. I called to cancel my Comcast service and not only did they match AT&T price they sent out a tech and I have been getting consistent speeds like these testing with http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
I have been waiting a long time to dump Comcast, but until now they were my only alternative.

I get 15K download/13K upload at work through speakeasy--my sister used to work there, BTW.

I know from experience that internet speed is affected by amount of RAM memory, so if you're not getting the rates you think you should that could be a problem.

I'm surprised the FIOS folks aren't doing faster than me although I'm testing when most other folks aren't at home. I'm on comcast's fastest cable service and got the following results, using Wash, DC (I'm about 50 miles from DC):

                      30118
                      2794

                      29288
                      2777

                      24970
                      2797

The nice thing for me is that work pays for most of my internet bill since I work from home a couple days a week so I only pay $6 a month out of my pocket.

Well the test convinced me to spend another $5/mth. I was getting 200-300kbps on download and about 100kbps on upload using DSLite from Windstream. For the extra money I now test 2500-3000 kbps on download and about 300 kbps on upload. Not great but it makes the difference between seeing the woodwhiperer steadily moving or waiting for the uploads.
