    Their Own Beds

We've got two large German Shepherds, and three cats. The dogs have always had their own beds which are about 3'x4', and about 6" thick with padding. The cats usually find other areas that they claim to do their dozing.

But recently one of our cats decided she liked the dogs bed and would plop down in the middle of one, and take her naps. There was no way she would let either dog on the bed. So, LOML went out and bought three kitty beds. They are only slightly larger than the cat, oval, padded, and have a thick padded raised ring around it about 3" thick.

Well, we placed those little beds near their favorite napping spots, and immediately each cat claimed their perspective beds. We didn't even have to sprinkle catnip to lure them in. It was instantaneous. None of the cats sleep in another cat's bed. It's like there's a sign above the bed with each name on it. I'll say this... seeing those cats all curled up in them, or laying in them with their heads propped up on the ring is just cute as heck.

When my cat decides he's sleeping on the dogs bed, my 100lb shepherd finds another spot to lay. Tells you who is in charge in my house.

We don't have any cats, but LOML mentioned that maybe we should get one. With the economy the way it is, the shelters are overloaded. We've also seen more stray dogs running around lately too. It has to be rough for them in the winter time.

Our dog has a "place" where she sleeps. When she was a pup, we bought a pad for her to lay on. She was taught if we say "place", she immediately goes to the pad, and lays down. That has worked out real well, especially if a stranger comes in the house.

Let's see, you're in Florida, I'm in Minnesota... Yeah, I should be safe from the fallout.

I bought a doggie bed for my laborador retriever. No soap. He just plops down wherever looks good to him and snoozes... He completely ignored the bed, so I got rid of it... He does like to lay on my big old sleeping bag I use when hunting though... We need to find a solution to this...

You might try bringing him his food bowl to the bed, and make him lay down to eat. That might be a start.

we try to discourage eating in bed at my house...
that's how they get those 800 pound people who haven't left the bedroom in 4 years.
                  Oh, we're talking about dogs.

Well Ray, it took a while as the camera scares them away. I caught two of them. Casper is the little white troublemaker, and Mandy is a Lynx Point Siamese, both were rescue kitties. The third cat is playing hard to get.

One of our cats sleeps wherever it falls. The other one insists that the bathroom sink is his bunk and curls up in it.
