WINTER STORM WARNING: City of TorontoIssued at 4:20 PM EST THURSDAY 18 DECEMBER 2008

SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW EXPECTED ON FRIDAY. THIS IS A WARNING THAT DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE IMMINENT OR OCCURRING IN THESE REGIONS. MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS..LISTEN FOR UPDATED STATEMENTS.
MOTHER NATURE IS STRIKING SOUTHERN ONTARIO WITH THE SECOND IN A SERIES OF SIGNIFICANT SNOW STORMS. THE FIRST GAVE AROUND 10 CENTIMETRES TUESDAY NIGHT. THE SECOND ARRIVES ON FRIDAY. A DYNAMIC STORM IS NOW DEVELOPING OVER COLORADO AS EXPECTED AND WILL RACE CLOSE TO THE LOWER GREAT LAKES DURING THE DAY FRIDAY. HEAVY SNOW IS FORECAST TO BEGIN IN SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO OVERNIGHT REACHING THE GREATER TORONTO REGION NEAR DAWN FRIDAY MORNING. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 15 TO LOCALLY 20 CM ARE WIDELY EXPECTED ACROSS MUCH OF THE LOWER GREAT LAKES BY FRIDAY EVENING. STRONG NORTHEAST WINDS OF 40 GUSTING AT TIMES TO 60 KM/H WILL DEVELOP EARLY FRIDAY COMPOUNDING THE SEVERITY OF THE STORM GIVING NEAR WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES IN FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW. THE STORM WILL LIKELY HAVE AN EXTRA STING AROUND THE WEST END OF LAKE ONTARIO DUE TO THE POTENTIAL FOR A LAKE-ENHANCED HEAVY SNOW BAND WHICH MAY AFFECT LOCALES FROM OAKVILLE INTO TORONTO FOR A WHILE FRIDAY MORNING BEFORE SHIFTING TOWARDS HAMILTON AND NIAGARA. LOCAL ACCUMULATIONS NEAR THE WEST END OF THE LAKE MAY REACH 25 CM. THE FRIDAY MORNING RUSH HOUR IN AND AROUND THE GOLDEN HORSESHOE MAY NOT BE QUITE AS BAD AS EARLIER THOUGHT AS THE SNOW'S ARRIVAL MAY BE DELAYED BY AN HOUR OR TWO. THE ONLY CAVEAT IS THAT A LAKE EFFECT SNOW BAND MAY GIVE SOME FLURRIES INITIALLY. HOWEVER..HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW THROUGHOUT THE DAY WILL LIKELY MAKE THE AFTERNOON COMMUTE PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT. CAUTION IS STRONGLY URGED FOR ANY OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES OR TRAVEL DURING THE DAY FRIDAY.

We haven't gotten that much in Minneapolis, about 10" this month, but the weather person just stated last night that we have had some amount of snow for 16 of the last 18 days, enough to shovel/snowblow on 7 of those days. Glad I'm retired and have time to do it. was more difficult to get done when I was working also. I'm really tired of getting rid of the snow for 3 places, two of which are corner lots with sidewalks. Throw in the below normal cold and I'm about ready to move to a warmer climate for the winter. We still have 4 months of this to go!!!

Right now, our area looks somewhat like the original pics in this thread. But it's not snow. It's ice.

We are getting hammered in Detroit today. We got about 3" two days ago and another 10" this morning with high winds to go along with it. Even with a big snow blower, it took me several hours to clear the drive and walks. It's still coming down like crazy too. Luckily I am on vacation so I didn't have to commute to work this morning.

Tomorrow will be calm and then another winter storm is due Sunday. I think we are going to have a white christmas this year.

Not the usual December Cincinnati weather, but it is still Autumn......
High of 63 a little bit ago, mostly sunny.
Rained all morning, then became very windy. It will also be windy with gusts over 30 mph and falling temperatures through the afternoon and evening. Overnight low of 29, high tomorrow 40.

Nope, no snow. And today is the last school day for most K -12 in the area.

My good friend and former fellow employee who retired and moved to Post Falls Idaho has been sending me pictures of his snow and an update on whats coming. He has a good 4-5ft of snow, I understand it is a record or close to it. His finial thought tonight was he would like Al Gore to come by and splain this global warming thing and then give Gore his snow shovel or to place it where the sun don't shine at all. It was bad last year and worse this year. The other day he was complaining about the cold -34deg and wanted it to warm so it would snow well it did. I told him where to find sympathy, between S*** and Syphilis in the dictionary. I do feel for him but no enough to go up and help him. My turn comes in January when I have to go to Idaho for two week to watch 2 of the grandkids while their brother comes to Californina to have corrective surgery, at least it is southern Idaho.

It's a real pretty way to find out if the trusses were engineered for the right snow load!

I would love to live in the mountains with a view like that.

We are happy to report that the deck and all the roofs are in place and holding well. This was a good test. It is reported to be the largest single snowfall in 15 years. No trusses, just 2x12, 2x14 and glulams for rafters with 3/4" plywood all over. Ain't going nowhere. We can't wait to move there, maybe in 6-8 months. All the big stuff is done.
