    Resume ideas

My job hunt has not gone as well as hoped and I have edited, reedited, and re-re-edited my resume and was wondering if I could PM or email it to anyone for their opinion, beginning to get a little frustrated.

Send it to me too. I've read several and had to make hiring recommendations in a job I used to have. Send me the full one and let me know what jobs you are interested in.

          is there a way

Is there a way to PM documents formatted in Word, so I can keep all of the spacing and bulleting, or not?

If you want to email it to me I can stick it on a server for you so people can download it.

Or you can sign up with Google Docs (http://docs.google.com) -- it's basically an online word processor that can read word files, and will let you share with others. (They can be readers or editors.) It also maintains a version history of the document.s

From what little I know about resumes I believe it would look better if you had some numbers in there. By how much did you raise sales? how many employees (if it was a fair amount) did you supervise? how much did you reduce costs? that sort of stuff. I'm sure these other guys can give you some great insight.

If you'd like some help punching up the language/sentence structure to make it a little more powerful let me know.

I have to agree with TomSlick, Viking. The resume is encompassing, but it lacks numbers. Also, you may consider some formatting changes to better align the groups. imho. Otherwise, it looks like you have a diverse background in management and are able to manage your own as well as a larger company's affairs (that was evident on first read to me). Good luck on your hunt.

A small point, but your professional references should be full names. Andy and Mike sound like your friends, I would use Andrew and Michael.
Also noticed that you have your own cleaning service at the same time as you have the position with Alterra. A prospective employer might look at this as diverting your attention away from your main job, esp as that job at Alterra was short term. Ideally they give you a chance to explain things, but that's only if you get your interview.
                          Best of luck!

My comments would be right along with Tom Slick's. Your resume details your job functions but not your accomplishments. A resume should be a sales brochure not a list of tech specs.

                            An example from your resume.
Supervised retail location, merchandised product, controlled inventory

These are tasks, what are the accomplishments? e.g.
                            • Increased average turnover from 3 to 4.1 per month
                            • Reduced shrikage by 10%
                            • Achieved 99.7% fill rate from stock

A prospective employer is looking not at what responsibilities you had, but how well you performed those responsibilities. They can hire anyone and assign responsibilities to them, why should they hire you?

A resume isn't going to do it in these tough times. You need to engage the people that do the hiring OUTSIDE of their organization.

I'd identify five to ten organizations where you'd like to work, google the personal employees/managers to determine their interests (where possible), and engage them.

Some people call this boot-strap networking. I like to call it what it is, stalking.
