Power corrupts, but does it also pickle the brain?

note : it's very easy to post something here that mandates locking the thread - along the lines of political parties, religion, ethnicity or Idunnowhat. If we all grit our teeth and refrain, we might be able to discuss this medical condition !

So a sitting governor is running his own pawn-shop over the phone, and even after he learns that his phone is tapped, he finds no reason to stop?!?

If this was shown in a movie, that would be a low C-grade script.

If I'd known such schmucks were in politics, I'd tried my hand in it.

Or maybe I got that wrong - maybe the stupidity is a criterion for getting in?

I must have missed the part where he continued after knowing about the wire tap.

      From WSJ :
The allegations suggest a breathtaking degree of brazenness on the part of the Illinois governor, who first won office in 2002 as a reformer and, according to the government affidavit, appeared to have continued to talk of his schemes by telephone after the Chicago Tribune reported Friday the phone lines had been tapped. On Monday, Mr. Blagojevich told reporters, "If anyone wants to tape my conversations, go right ahead."

if i heard it right, he not only continued but invited them to tap his phones.... that was a CNBC report last night so who knows. i am thinking there is something in the water in his office.

Some days I think we should only elect to office those who don't want it!

The one flaw in your plan is those folks are smart enough not to run for office.

IMHO the best part is that this guy ran on a platform to clean up Illinois politics after his predecessor was jailed for corruption.

If it's a medical condition, I would consider it terminal. Any official who contracts this contagious disease should be moved to GITMO for permanent quarantine. I bet that would slow the spread.

It's a little scarey when you think that these folks are considered our countries "leaders".

                      Chicago/Illinois politics story

A couple of years ago following the hotly contested Florida presidential elections the old punch-style voting machines in all of Illinois were replaced with new digital-electronic voting machines. The old machines were stored for a while but were finally sold to the State of New Mexico which had been using voting machines dating from the 50's. The used Illinois machines were a significant step up for the cash-strapped state.

In the 2007 elections when the machines were first used in NM, Richard M. Daley was elected mayor of Santa Fe.

The above is a true story. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

                        Good one!

With people like the Gov in office, you have to wonder just how far they'll go for the almighty dollar. And how many others there are like that. That's a very scary thought.

                          Heinlein said it best:

Stupidity cannot be cured with money, or through education, or by legislation. Stupidity is not a sin, the victim can't help being stupid. But stupidity is the only universal capital crime; the sentence is death, there is no appeal, and execution is carried out automatically and without pity.
