    It's here!!!

It's here!!! My unisaw is here! The guy was in a hurry, wants to let go of the shop by the weekend. Good thing he had a van and didn't even need persuading to help deliver it!

Looks a bit dusty, but otherwise came over without any great hitch.

For all my search for a mobile base, I found one on CL yesterday! The shop-fox others have recommended here (from Grizzly and Woodcraft and other places). I tell you, CL seems to be a sentient being, knowing what I want when I want it! Not bad for $40, I think.

Anyway, I assembled the base last night for 20" square, but had to change it to 21" this morning while the helpers were waiting to place the unisaw on it. The seller's son (a body builder) and his buddy could lift the saw up pretty much all by themselves; we needed to help only to-and-from the van !

But now the saw sits nice right in the middle of the garage waiting to be inaugurated. My electrician made me promise I won't turn it on till he's here to take a look at it and see everything's okay, so shall call him this evening.

Am now rushing back to work (sneaked out for this ).

And while picking the saw up, also picked up a large stash of laminates from the seller : he was about to put a huge load into the dumpster. I got whatever I could manage. Some regular, some with extraordinary grains/swirls on them. The last I was at Constantine, I had balked at the cost! Didn't have time to snap all of it, just a sample:

That is the nicest "cheap" Unisaw I've ever seen. Is that a Special Edition?

Most inexpensive Unisaws are pretty banged-up/rusty. With a little spit and elbow grease, yours will be like new!

Are you kidding? I'd recommend getting yourself fired, so that you'll have plenty of time to play with the new toy!!!

Just in case somebody did not follow my earlier thread (you must excuse me for thinking everybody knows about my good fortune ), I paid $250 for this saw. I have googled and found it can be bought new for around $1450, but in used condition, it has not sold for less than $800-900.

It's the 'platinum' edition. Mine comes with the Unifence and a 50" rail.

What an awsome saw for about the price most of us paid for our BTs.
You know that will all think YOU SUCK!!!

That has to be the best $250 ever spent and you got the base for only $40!!!!

We know what you will be doing all weekend, by the end of saturday we expect to see pics of it all clean and sparkling.

Did it also come with a miter gauge or are you going to have to find another CL bargin?

We should start a "Best of Gloats" thread and I am sure this will be very near the top of the list.

            Have fun and be safe.

            Signing off,

            Insanely Jealous of Phoenix....

I like the way the fence is too long to fit in the photos. Nice gloat.

                Jon,
I'mfraid you credit me with too much patience - I already planning a friday-night-out (in the garage), just to clean inside-out. The only reason I did not call in sick is that I have to submit my personal year-end performance-review to my boss !

Dunno if I want to do anything more than clean; have to read-up before getting to any 'tune up'.

It did come with a miter-gauge, but I have an Incra V27, so should be all set. He gave me the extension-table legs, so have to just make a top. The only thing missing is a blade-guard/splitter. I think being a cabinet shop it got flung out. Have to find a replacement. I know, I could wait for CL to get benevolent again, but I may not have patience enough to wait...

Yeah JR, that long fence is a huge nuisance...

You suck! I wish I had room for one of those, that was a steal at that price.

DO take the time to give it a real clean i.e. get inside and figure out what needs to be cleaned and lubed e.g. the lift and tilt mechanisms etc.

BTW just for grins and giggles I just check my local CL and the best I could find was a large older Jet for $900. There were three PM66s but the cheapest was $1750!!!!

Did you even consider buying both and then just reselling the other one, you could easily have flipped it for an extra $400-500.

Just to assure everybody here - I did consider the other saw. I even tried to persuade my b-i-l to make place in his garage for some time for one.

But the seller actually dissuaded me - that saw was not used much, and he suspected it had a broken trunnion or something; it also had a warped front fence/rail. Too much effort for me to fix just to sell; then his neighbor (a wood-turning shop) stepped in to buy it to fix and use, so I simply let it slide.

For somebody in the right area, here's a similar saw for sale : Delta Unisaw-Platinum Edition - $1100 (East Millcreek). Not as cheap, of course !

Replace NOW! Don't spoil the gloat with a preventable safety-related incident - it would never be worth that.

                        You truly do SUCK, BTW!

Ray, you have a point - I can't be blaise about this.

So what is a good option for a blade-guard? Could I just pick up something cheap 'for now' and later upgrade to the shark? (assuming there's a shark for the unisaw).
