    Wounded in action

I hate those push down and turn safety caps. Today I couldn't get the lid off of my sanding sealer so I grabbed a pair of channel locks to break it loose, they slipped off and tore a chunk out of my hand. It didn't look to bad but I called the Dr and she said to come in. Now here I sit with 6 stitches in my hand and out of commission for a few days.

You know there are times, when the better part of valor is not to admit the exact cause of an accident. A better response may have been, " I hurt my self in the shop today and had to get stitches." I have had a lot of practice at this sort of public relations.

Sorry you are out of circulation. Hope all heals well!

I have actually done that a couple times. Is it okay if I laugh because I now know I'm not the only one who has done that?

You beat me to it Loring!

I hope your hand feels better soon, Dick. Just ignore my occasional chuckle.

LOML had to get a prescription after oral surgery. She asked the pharmicist to replace the adult proof cap with one she could actually open.

I have to wonder whether, in the process of avoiding harm to children, we've compensated by harming even more adults?

                Dick,

That's exactly the way I always open up cans of Watco Danish Oil, but I use a Knipex brand of channel locks, curved jaws and they don't slip (at least so far).

The reason they call them "child-proof caps" is because most kids don't have channel-locks...

My dad has been a pharmaceutical rep for as long as I can remember. When my
sister and I were kids (<8 yo), my dad had us replace all the child-proof caps
on hundreds of drug samples going to geriatric patients with easy to open caps.
We got pretty good at it.

Those lids stick every time, don't they, Dick!? I tried the trick of wrapping the male threads wih teflon tape and it was just a bit easier to get it off. Then again, that would be partly my fault because I store these cans on their narrow side with the opening down so that the contents block air from coming in. (Does anyone else see a problem here?) I have saved a lot of danish oil like this but I then have to deal with a little leakage - which I provide for - and wrenching the top off. I have to replace the teflon tape each time, too. Works for me.
