Tomorrow : What's the best time of the day to vote?

LOML wanted to vote 'early' but I flatly refused - I believe the lines tomorrow should be far shorter, seeing that the number of polling stations would be much higher.

Now she predicts we'll be in line for a number of hours tomorrow, and I bet her my day's salary that we'd be out in an hour or less .

So, in order to save a bunch of my money, what do you think is the best time of the day to vote for shortest lines/time?

Remember - I'm asking for your opinion on the best time to vote; not if you are gonna vote, and definitely not who you are gonna vote for!

Personally I like to be there when the polls open at 6 am. I'm usually on the road by then anyway, so it keeps my regular schedule.

Sometimes I think I should bring lots of doughnuts and coffee and sell them to people in line. Free enterprise, you know!

Since my school is a polling place, I have the whole day off. My wife has a Dr. appt two hours away, so we'll vote first thing, then a little breakfast, then a road trip, possibly some lunch. We're looking forward to a leisurely day...

Much as I'd like to, I won't stay up late watching the results. Gotta teach Wednesday morning...

I would say 9 to 11 AM. That is when I will go vote. The voters who stopped on their way to work are (hopefully) gone by then and the people at work are trying to do a little work before they leave at lunch or the afternoon/evening to vote.

Mid-morning and mid-afternoon are historically the lightest crowds, as people with jobs tend to go before or after work and on their lunches. However, with so many more unemployed this time around, that may not be so much of a factor.

I expect a huge turnout this time, as I tried to vote early five times, and the lines were around the building each time. I'm sure others met with the same difficulty.

I will be there when they open at 7am. If I was in Chicago, I could vote early, vote often as Mayor Dalily Sr. used to say. I will just be glad when it is over.

I'm surprised you had to wait. All three times I voted early on this election, the lines were 10 minutes. I'm hoping I can squeeze in a few more votes at lunch tomorrow. This being Florida, we have to vote a few times to make sure one of them gets counted!

So you are the reason they said I had already voted !

The Dallas Morning News said of the 1,200,000 Dallas County registered voters 40% had already voted. Our county which is the next one north has had record early voting. So If you have early voting, it may not be that bad. But I am for mid morning or mid afternoon.

Harris County (Houston, TX) said yesterday that 730,000 (of 1.96 million registered voters, 37%) had already early voted.

I just can't get my head around this early voting thing. Presidents are elected on the first Tuesday of November in leap years. Not sometime near the first Tuesday.

It just seems weird to me.

Here in NYC, I have never waited for more than 10 minutes, no matter when I go. I am continually surprised to hear of people waiting in line for hours to vote. If that's the best the polling places can do, they really shouldn't talk about 'people don't vote'. If they're going to make it that difficult.....

The town where i vote is small like about maybe 50 or 60 people so we have a get together day sort of thing.
Pot luck lunch and dinner and sit and visit as we only get the whole comunity together for this, weddings and funerals and of course the christmas sleigh ride/carroling/get together for the kids thing.

So i guess i am not much help am i?

I voted last week, all I had to do is put a stamp on it and walk to the mail box.

one reason for long wait times in our elections is the length of the ballot. In my area, there's about 70 positions to vote for, not including city positions. In addition to federal candidates, we have candidates for state offices (state senate and house) and county commissioners, sherriff, ec, there are also a large number of county judges for all the different court positions. civil, criminal, JP, family law, and for multiple court districts.
