Current gas prices

Just got gas at a Marathon station in north Dayton, OH for $2.959/gal. Never thought paying that much would make me happy but....I felt like driving around first so I could buy more, LOL.

It is down to $3.39 here and the best price I heard of was the local Sams Club at $3.29

It would be interesting to plot the barrel of crude oil price on top of the retail price curve that you have on a different y-axis. (If you can get that data that is).

The gas companies give the increasing crude oil prices as the reason for price increases at the pump. I wonder if the recent pump price decreases accurately reflect the crude oil price decreases of late.

Another interesting to see would be the a curve of the oil company profits within the same time frame.

Just for grins, I found some downloadable crude oil prices and easily plugged them into my spreadsheet. I factored the crude price by 1/10 so it would show up on the chart. When I first put another series into it I couldn't figure out why it was only showing the crude prices. I finally realized that the scale was so large that the gas prices looked like a flat line at the bottom, so I divided them all by 10.

The chart is missing data for Oct. and Nov. of 2007. I had a USB drive failure and my closest backup was two months old.

Price this morning was 3.39. On the way home the same gas station had it at 3.19. If this price drop over the last few weeks does not show how manipulated the market was I don't know what will.

$3.39 for the most part here this evening in Knoxville, TN. I've seen as low as $2.99 and $3.05 not too far away. But then just west in Nashville and just east in Charlotte, NC it's closer to $3.89 a gallon.

We're at the end of the Plantation pipeline that brings refined gas up from the gulf. Our prices spiked to $4.99 at the time of the last storm. Our supplies now are back to darn close to normal. I don't know what the situation in the gulf is though -- you don't hear the media really talk about it. I wonder how many of those refineries are still down. Clearly it's not the price of oil that's driving it when we see light sweet crude at under $90 per barrel.

Independence Mo. today was $2.75. Saturday, a local grocery store did a thing where purchase $50 in groceries, get 25 cents off. (made it $2.60 then)

In north Jersey, $2.98 reg. Heating oil three weeks ago was 3.72 gal.
