    "Landed up" or "Ended up?"

One interesting thing about forums like this: You get to regularly converse with folks from all over the country. In doing so, you become aware of regional differences in phrases and colloquialisms.

On another forum recently, I read a post where the phrase "landed up" was being used in a way that I would have used "ended up." For example:
We had planned on going to see a movie, but we landed up simply renting a DVD and staying home.
When I read the post on the other forum, I shrugged is off as one person's twist on a common phrase. But then I saw it being used by a member here today. I googled "landed up" to see if it a regional thing, but it just asked me if I meant "ended up." This tells me they are probably used interchangeably, but I'm still curious about what part of the country uses "landed up" vs "ended up." I think the member that posted here was from PA.

Why do I care? I'm not sure...maybe it was that semester spent as an English major

    Greetings!
I'm from PA (Originally from NY), and "Landed Up" is a new one on me. I guess it could be regional? But FWIW, I don't hear it in SE PA.

I'll generally either use "ended up" or "wound up". "I started out on Fischrupp Ave., but "wound up" on Erie Street". Does anyone else use "wound up"?

I've never heard landed up being interchanged for ended up.

landed up???? Never heard that phrase before,
isn't landing supposed to be down, anyway, by definition?
                Wouldn't landing down be redundant?

                  Ah, lets see...

The kid dropped his jelly covered bread and it landed up, but ended up in the garbage.

The aircraft ended up down under in OZ, we were all wound up but to our surprise it landed up, right side that is.

OK Mike...I wasn't going to call you out specifically, but it was your post that started this. As I mentioned, I saw it used once by a member on another forum, so I know you're not the only one who uses it (unless you also frequent a Toyota Tacoma forum....?)

if you are landing a jump then I guess you could say landed up or down depending if the person fell or not.

I've never landed up here in California.

another interesting saying is "cut on", I've even read it in technical writings for aircraft. in a sentence it would be "Cut on the aux fuel pump and transfer fuel from the wing tank". I'd say "turn on" or "cut off", but not cut on.

According to the Urban Dictionary "landed up" = "ended up", used primarily on the East coast. Never heard it myself.

"to be the result of some activity, or consequence of an action." used mainly on the east coast...also could use the expression "ended up."
