Yes, and I get "wound up" everytime I argue with my wife and usually end up losing.

        Landed/Ended/Wound up

I probably use "wound up" more frequently than "ended up", but never recall having heard "landed up" used in that manner.

I say "wound up" more than "ended up", which seems more permanent. "Landed up" may be sayings popularized by student pilots, or seafaring mates. "Ended up" makes sense to anyone who has been to divorce court.

"Wound up" and "ended up" are both common phrases to me. "Landed up" is a new one.

another interesting saying is "cut on", I've even read it in technical writings for aircraft. in a sentence it would be "Cut on the aux fuel pump and transfer fuel from the wing tank". I'd say "turn on" or "cut off", but not cut on.
IIRC from my army days, one would be directed to "operate the aux fuel pump to the On position."

I have heard "landed up" in use, but don't use it myself. I can not identify a region where it is used.

I'm from South Dakota originally, but don't know if that influenced my use of this particular expression. I'm likely to say "wound up" or "ended up", unlikely to say "landed up". But I hear all of them and hadn't given the matter any thought until this thread.

I could see it used as "We were out driving in the mountains and the road landed up in Middle Fork" but that would imply "landed up" in a place as opposed to being a verb.

The trees ended up in the cars or landed on the cars. Possibly some planes were laying with the landing gear facing up, but then they landed upside down. Insurance will end up paying for some of the stuff that will end up filling the land fill up. However, I did land up on my a$$ the last time I ended up filling up my tank. I may land up broke, or end up walking.

While approaching the class 5 rapids we landed up above the start of the chute. After a quick and careful survey we decided that a portage was the smarter course because we did not want to end up as drowning victims.

English is a wonderful language; it's even better when folks use the correct word to convay the intended meaning.
