    Do You know the difference

between MAX AC and AC in Your car? Here in Arkansas We use AC in late March April and

then in May We turn it to MAX AC. This is because of Our humidity levels and tempertures,

and knowing that when We get out of the car, the heat will hit us and My glasses fog up.

I haven't lived here all My life yet, but I will never get used to the weather. Bill

In the cars I've driven the difference between the two is a little bit faster blower speed, but the max AC recirculates the interior air and does not take in outside air.

My daily driver has an 80/3 conditioner. 3 windows open and 80MPH. It got down graded from an 80/4 since the right quater window regulator broke. My '69 Camaro wasn't ordered with the luxury option of air-conditioning. (or power steering, or power brakes).

In most cars, MAX closes the fresh air damper, so you cool the inside air repeatedly, a little more each time through, rather than using ambient outside air, as would happen with just regular A/C. The unfortunate side effect, particularly if you had chili for lunch, is that it will take much longer to dissipate er... odors...

Another thing that happens with many cars when on MAX is that a higher fan speed is kicked in, and any internal thermostat is disabled, so the system just runs wild until you tell it otherwise.

There's a setting that's not MAX AC? What's that for? Must be for winter up north or something...

Most car manuals I've seen recommend against running on the MAX AC setting for more than 15 minutes straight because it doesn't draw in outside air.

Especially if you're on your way home from the churches annual chili dinner!
