    KC BBQ- WHere to go?

I will be traveling thru the KC are Saturday and what to try some BBQ. I plane on traveling from Omaha to Knob Noster. So anyone have idea of a good joint close to a route I will be taken thru KC. I can either take 435 East to I70E. Or I-29 thru the heart of KC to I70 East. Recommendations please.....

Although I've never been to KC, I did run across this after doing a quick Google search on the best BBQ in Kansas City. Hope it helps, but actually Memphis has the best!

Can't go wrong with Arthur Bryant's, its my favorite. I have also heard good things about Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue, but have never been there.

It is at the Rendevous in Memphis, for the best pork ribs. Bill

Another vote for Arthur Bryant's. I eat there just about everytime I visit family in K.C. and it's awesome.

And I love Rudy's down in Texas. I got married in Austin and we had our caterer buy Rudy's for the meat dish.

And here I sit in Colorado, where the BBQ is scarce and I'm dying for some TexMex.

I like Haywards but it is not along your path. It's easy to find, however. It's just off Antioch south of 435 in Overland Park (suburb on the Kansas side in Johnson County). It's probably less than 2 miles off the interstate. It is a very casual place as the 10 best suggests. Their best meal, in my opinion, is the sandwiches. They are huge, of course, and you can mix the meats any way you want. The sauce is very good. The ribs are also very good but you'd have to be a very big eater to finish a platter. A great lunch is a beer, sandwich, and some onion rings.

I also travel to Texas but I see little difference in the BBQ. If you like it in Texas, you should like it in Kansas or Missouri. You have to go the southeast to get unique things like vinegar based or mustard based sauces. I grew up with ketchup based and I kind of like molasses based but not vinegar or mustard. In the center of the country, I have only found ketchup (but each place has their own spices so there is still some variety).

On the way down we stopped by Aurther Bryants near down town. What a joint. The place was packed at 10:45 AM Saturday morning. I knew then this place is great. I ordered the beef sandwitch and frys. 2 slices off wonder bread with about a pound of juicy brisket in between, what a master piece, even better then Rudy's. I think I found a new favorite BBQ joint, just happens to be 3 hours away.

On the way home on Sunday we stopped by Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue in the Country Club plaza. It was good. I have been to the one in Martin City a few times. There pit beans are the best. LOML order a dish she didnt like, too spicy?, the manager came over and took it off the ticket. We did not even ask, I thought it was good.

Oh yeah, I stopped by Woodcraft Sunday morning, first time there, nice place. So I was probably in the area of Haywards, maybe next time.

                  Thanks,

                  Todd
