    Crane

In the news the other day an 800,000 pound crane fell down.
The news headline was "Government agency to investigate why crane fell"

I was going to post a one-word comment "Gravity" but when I went to post, I found some wisecracking A-hole had beat me to it.

Yah I think it was solid gold and was pulled from one of Saddam's mansions.

Was that the one at the refinery in Houston? I think it was CNN that reported it was a 30 story tall crane capable of lifting 1 million lbs.

Uh, refinery crane that fell in Houston? WHAT?!

See what I get for going to work, fiddling around there, coming home and working in the shop, and then here (when my poor wife is occupied) until I go to sleep... I am totally out of the loop!

yeah that's the one, 400 foot boom, 300 feet high, like 800,000 to 1,000,000 lb lift.
Largest mobile crane in the world. Killed four people, contractors to the refinery, employees of the crane rigging co.

Took out another crane as it fell.

Tell them to call you when an 800,000-pound crane falls up... Now, that's news...

When I was in the Navy, we had a crane fall over and the crew loved it. No one was hurt, but it fell directly on every one of the top officer's cars: Captain, XO, Chief Engineer, Navigator, etc... It even got the brown nosing Sailor of the Quarter's car.

As I recall, it was about 7 cars in all. They of course got to park right along side the ship, while the rest of us had over a mile to walk each morning.

Some mornings are just better than others.

Whoa nelly! Lyondell was one of my scholarship patrons when I was in college! This sucks!

At least it isn't anywhere near as bad as the 2005 BP explosion in Texas City.

                      Fallen crane pic

The brown-red crane boom fell, took out the yellow crane underneath it as it fell..

Or as bad as the Texas City explosion in '47 I'm not sure if I'd even want to live even near that town.

Okay you do know where League City is right? I don't wanna hear about the '47 explosion thank you very much...

Just makes the need for selling and getting off the coast that much greater... I'm thinking getting a job on the west side and buying a house in the Katy area... Gets me closer to the freshwater I like to fish anyway.

I do now, looked it up on a map. Pretty darn close.

My boy and my BIL were working a job in Bay City a few years ago. I told them to be careful, it blew up a few years ago. (I couldn't remember the exact name of the specific City at the moment)

Yeah but then you get the fun of I-10 traffic everyday. I'm not sure which is worse.
