    You Guys started this!

Somebody here started a thread about motor scooters...

This coming Friday, I take delivery of a NEW Silver one of these:

    http://www.piaggio.com.au/Products/GTS250ie.html

The Bank called me to ask if I really put thru the purchase on VISA - yes - because LOML wanted the points

    Total so far: US$10,175 Includes...
    • The bike, registration, Insurance.
    • Medical - passed with flying colors!
    • Pre-learner instruction (needed to see if I could still hold one up - so-to-speak).
    • Helmet, boots, gloves, W/P overpants.
    • Learner instruction/permit (this coming Thursday). Never thought I'd need an "L" plate at 66
Still trying to find a jacket that doesn't make me look like a little fat "Robot Cop"

Yes - authentication pics to come...

BTW - I went for a test ride on this beast - UNBELIEVABLE I had to lean forward to keep the front wheel on the ground

No, I'm not having a late life crisis - simply fulfilling a dream I had about 45 years ago -AND- fully supported by LOML (said she could handle a little time on her own ).

I haven't been this excited since my first ......

Looks like a beaut, but it sure makes you pay for the privilege of ownership. $10,000 ain't chicken feed, as we used to say in the midwest. Interesting that they don't give any info about miles per gallon . . . or even km/litre!

At that price, I think I'd go for something more like this: http://www.gemcar.com/build/accBuild.asp?model=4 .

Yes, but how much lumber can it haul?

I haven't had a Vespa, but I have had two scooters here in Japan. They sure are handy at getting around locally and for quick trips within 3 to 4 mile radius. Beyond that, I had to take back streets to stay away from heavy and faster traffic.

A buddy of mine just took delivery of THIS SCOOTER. It was under US$1500. It has a built in sound system AM/FM I think, and remote electric start.

There are no dealers in our area, and I think they can only be ordered online. His came delivered in a steel framed cage, and was damage free on delivery.

I had no idea Piaggio made Vespa scooters. I do know they make this sex machine:

              http://www.piaggioaero.com/en/

It get around just a bit faster than your scooter, though parking is a problem. Fuel economy isn't great, either. But it raises my blood pressure and heart rate every time I see one.

60 km/l is about 39 miles per gallon.

              Have fun!

Congrats on your ride! Just out of curiosity, how would that thing fare in a collision with a kangaroo?

Here's my scooter (Rincon Giant)--gets 20 miles to the gallon:

Mine's 20 years old and still going strong. I estimate riding it to work (4 miles round trip) allows me to drink 1 more gallon of beer per week without putting on weight...

I have a special interest in Vespas. Piaggio/Vespa is owned by Fiat. One of my high school classmates (a few years younger than me) was Giovanni Agnelli, one of the heirs to the Fiat empire. He was in charge of the Vespa division until his untimely death in 1997. I recall he drove a very sleek Fiat Spider (that looked like this) his senior year.

Way to go Rod! I had a Lambretta years ago when I lived in Hawaii, loved it.

Oh, man does that bring back the memories! I had a Fiat 124 Spider like that. Loved that little car and hated to see it go after being hit from behind by a station wagon doing about 40.

60 km/l is about 39 miles per gallon.

Nope. Jack, you forgot to convert liters to gallons. 60 km=37¼ miles * 3.8 l/gal= 142 mpg (more or less.)

Reminds me of the Beech Starship. I was fortunate enough way back in the day to get a ride in the first one off the line.
