    Supposed to be true

This is supposed to be the transcript of an actual radio conversation between a US naval ship and Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995. The Radio conversation was released by the Chief of Naval Operations on Oct. 10, 1995.

    - Please change your direction 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.

    - Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to South to avoid a collision.

    - This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

    - No. I say again, you divert YOUR course.

    - THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER ENTERPRISE, WE ARE A LARGE WARSHIP OF THE US NAVY. DIVERT YOUR COURSE NOW!
    - This is a lighthouse. Your call.

Snopes takes all the fun out it. My Daughter in Law checks everything through snopes. Doesn't read the newspaper, doesn't watch the news, doesn't read a book. If it is not in Snopes or on CSI it doesn't exist or insn't true. She is not ever a Blonde.

Wikipedia says "Snopes aims to debunk or confirm widely spread urban legends".

                  But is Wikipedia trustworthy?

From Wikipedia: "In Michael Crichton's novel Next, a news report claims that blondes are going extinct. Several chapters later, the report is debunked with Snopes cited as a source."

In case you're interested in the real fictional Snopes, here's the genealogy from the Faulkner novels:

I know one quote in which Snopes IS wrong on, but will not comment on it directly because it is very political. The speech happened in another country from the US of A; the comment was broadcast here in Japan and back in the home state of the politician. My sister and her husband saw it there and I saw it here. It made me laugh and my sister called me a few days later and commented on it too.

BUT, Snopes refutes it from the perspective of a USA speech that didn't happen - which is true in the sense that it did not happen in a USA delivered speech.

The lighthouse story has been told in every Power Squadron and Coast Guard Auxiliary basic boating course since inception. It was probably first told about 45 minutes after Marconi invented the radio. I certainly first heard or read it decades before 1995.
