    Anyone installed XP SP3?

Update just told me it was available. Any known problems?

Given the amount of code it contains and the fact that I'm a fairly heavy user (no cracks about weight, please!), I've had absolutely no problems with it.

There are supposed to be a few "improvements" included, but you'll struggle to find anything obvious. One I've found is that in Events Viewer, the number of events is now shown at the top of the right-hand pane.

I hear that this is the last major service pack to be issued for XP. My new computer is nearly ready for switch-on and that will run Vista Ultimate, so I guess that my further interest in XP is moot. HTH, Rod.

I just installed it on Friday. I was initially sorry that I had because of glitches in internet page loading - Done but with errors. It took three re-boots but it seems that the issues have sorted themselves out and it's smoothe running, now.

I've installed it on 6 PCs without issue. Mostly it is a wrap-up that includes all the previous updates, combined into a more cohesive and efficient group.

I do know of others who have had issues, but they are IT folks who have installed it on hundreds of PCs and have had trouble with one or two.

My advise would be pick a day this week that would be least disastrous to have a problem. Use it as an opportunity to make a good backup and be sure to update and run your anti-virus/anti-spyware the night before (the source of most install problems).

There is an issue with some HP PC's with AMD processors where HP used an intel image of rather than an AMD image of XP. Installing SP3 on one of these machines will cause continuous reboots. HP has a patch available but it must be installed BEFORE you install XP SP3 or you will need to install from scratch. DAMHIKT. My other four machines worked flawlessly including my Mac running XP under Parallels.

Updated 15 machines recently, 14 were fine, 1 went Tango-Uniform and was regressed until we have time to look at it again.

I installed it last week and no problems so far. It could be coinky-dink but it also appears to have fixed an issue I had with getting to gmail - my browswer was loading the slow connection version of the page. Clearing cache, etc did not fix it but after installing SP3 that cleared it up.

Installed it two or three weeks ago, via Windows Update. There have been no problems and I did not notice any differences between SP3 and SP2.

I am in the process of switching over to Firefox and have not run into any problems with that either.

                  Regards, Steve

we did it here on our company. no issue other than that when ever you hit Ctrl+P, its takes like 10 seconds for the dialogue box to pop up. its getting to the point that is starting to tic me off, and like another colleague of mine, i am tempted to uninstall it. other than that, no issues.

I don't think the reboot loop problem was specific to HP. But it IS specific to AMD chip based systems... Of course this has no impact on me whatsoever since I run Linux instead of Windows...

I upgraded my laptop and I ran into an issue with DNS. I need to figure out what its malfunction is. Quick fix was forcing it to use a dns server of my choice.
