    Sacramento Woodworking Show

BIL and I went to the Woodworking Show today, had a great time. Didn't see any super deals and didn't spend much. Bought 2 magnetic lights for the Bandsaw and Drillpress and some acrylic pen blanks from Caft Supplies (woodturners catalog) BIL bought 2 of the Dubby Table Saw Sleds with all the stuff need to aligh and set them up. Watched the Demo and they are pretty slick and I think worth the money. Watched a talk at the Porter Cable Booth on Router Bits their use and and types of bits. At the end the speaker gave a good explantion on why the big cost difference between the different makers. Basicly it has to do with the Carbide and how many times the sheet is reused(for a lake of a better word) I will try to get a better explantion when we go back tomorrow for the cabinet making talk and Somerfield booth. Also attened a talk on HVLP sparyers also very educational. These talks both were given by the Show staff at least they had the Shoe logo on their shirts. Cook Wood (Hardwoods) had Semi Truck Tailer there outside the front door with Exotic Hardwood for sale, First I had seen large planks of some the wood where were beautiful and expensive. I did pick some wooden pen blanks for a reasonable price. There were fewer vedors and no big name speakers there as in past years. We enjoyed ourselves and will be going back tomorrow to attend the cabinet making class. Did sign up for all the give away including the truck full of tools. It has the Vynil skin over the paint so at least if you win it you don't have to repaint it after removing the skin. Was it worth the 7 bucks yea don't like paying $8 for parking in the tax payer funded State Fair grounds.
or paying sale tax on what I bought.

Had the same complaint about the parking in Tampa. And if you leave for lunch you can't re-enter without paying again, which is bogus. I was disappointed in the show, but realize it must cost a bundle these days to haul displays and people around the country.

maybe it costs a lot to haul stuff around but why does it cost $8 to park on grounds we the public own and paid for already. parking in Houston was $8, too, on stadium/exhibition grounds owned by the county and leased to private firms operating the reliant park, home of the Houston Texans. I guess the parking goes to pay off the bonds we voted to help our poor struggling team owners. Oops, maybe I'm waxing too political... I'll stop now.

My brother-in-law and I just landed in Minneapolis after attending the Sacramento show. This is the first year I bought nothing; there really wasn't much new and it seem smaller than some of other shows we've been to. The HVLP presentation was really informative. We stayed for all three sessions even though the last one go a bit off topic.

          Dubby

I was at the Sacramento wood show this past weekend. One of the main reasons I went there was to see the Dubby in action. I had read the reviews and comments on the wood forums and was leaning toward the purchase of a Dubby and when I saw that you would be in Sacramento, I made the 3 hour drive to see it in action.

I can say that I was impressed by the demonstration. It was everything I had read and heard commented. I did purchase both sides and the book. Now my problem.

Went to assemble it the other day after reading the directions and watching the DVD. Very informative. However, when I went to mount the guide bar to the sled the countersinks are not drilled deep enough for the screws to be flush with the top. Easy enough fix. The other problem I ran into was when mounting the gauge the screw holes were drilled too big for the screws and the would not tighten down. And yes I was using a small hand held screwdriver. Again, not a terrible problem to fix.

Now I bought both sides and this is only with the right, have not even unpacked the left. Both problems are easy fixes, my question is after spending $300+ would you want to have to 'fix' your brand new product?

I watched the Demo also, my BIL bought both sides. As far as I know he hasn't assembled them yet. He has been busy upgrading his table saw with new pullys and a link belt and getting every thing aligned. I will let him know about your problems. I think I would let they guy know about your problems. Nothing worse the getting a bad reputation for selling stuff that is not right. It was a pretty slick deal and a decent price for all you got but at $300 it better be perfect. I am thinking of getting with part of my Tax Rebate but I am going to wait and see what happens with my BIL
