I thought it was a great game! Everything from the National Anthem to the Halftime show to the way Eli played was first-rate. The Giants' defense never let Brady get settled. There weren't any commercials that blew me away, but several were decent. -
that was one of the best SB's ever. Really great football played by both sides.

UNBELIEVABLE! I was rooting for the Giants because of Eli.
I played baseball in high school against Archie, and was an Archie fan when he was at Ole Miss and at N.O.
I kinda wanted to see a perfect season accomplished but still had more pull for Manning.Hank Lee

The Giants showed a lot of heart when it counted. As a charter fan of the '72 Dolphins, I will go have a bit of champagne now...

So, does this make the '72 Miami season more impressive? They can now say that they are the only undefeated team in the regular season including the playoffs. The Pats might have matched their perfect regular season, but they must be feeling pretty good right now.

Yessir, it's all about defense. Brady was under pressure almost the whole game. Congrats to the Giants.

Good game played well by both teams! Officiating was good, too. Not a lot of flags thrown on borderline infractions. Kept control, but let the players play football.Don, aka Pappy,

Was the Dophins perfect season a total of 17 wins due to a shorter season/fewer teams?
In that respect, NE Pats won 18 this season, though it wasn't perfect.

At that time, the season was only 14 games. I think there were maybe 4 or 6 fewer teams. There was no between league AFC/NFC games at that time.
The real answer to the reason for going to 16 games was the extra revenue due to footballs popularity. The wild card game play off extended it another week. The lengthening of the season was more due to the financial gains that could be made, than for the sport itself, IMO. The skip week for the SB itself also put in for the same reason.
The season being 17 weeks for 16 games was also for the purpose of extending the season - every bit financial gain. IF there were no financial gain, it would not have been done. A side benefit of the 17 week 16 games is a rest week for injured players. This was not the reason it was adopted though.
These are my opinions and I do not count all of that is a negative.Hank Lee

Hank,
If I may add that Wellington Mara (owner of the NY's Football Giants until he passed), was a factor in the extension of the season. It was only due to Mara's 'grand idea' that many of the small town teams managed to exist and compete in the NFL.
He was the architect of the residual sharing that happens between teams, giving many of them more money on the road than at home.
It was Wellington's foresight that allowed the league to grow, so much so, that all American based professional sports leagues now follow similar structuring.
ON a side note- I personally think the '72 Dolphins were more impressive, not due to play or talent, but on pure toughness. Take a look at a player photo from '72 versus this year. It looks as if they wore no protection at all back then. Guys played hurt, really hurt.
The Pats will win at least a few more Bowls (Brady is only 30 years old!
), and they will probaly go 19-0 next season, but for now....

That was really quite a game. I guess that was 4 hours well spent.
Reasons I'm glad the Giants won:
1. I like Archie and Payton, it's nice that Eli can claim his share of the glory.
2. Eli seems like a regular guy. He's not a pretty boy like Brady.
3. It was great to see Gatorade dumped on Coughlin and even greater to see him crack a smile while getting teased by Straihan.
4. The Giants beat the Packers to get into the SB, but we beat the Giants in regular season 35-13, so it gives us some bragging rights!
5. That scramble by Eli with 2 mins. to go was awesome, and if I might say so, Favresque.
6. Burress not only made one of the great receptions of the evening, but he pretty much accurately predicted the outcome. Which ticked everyone off before the game.
7. Number one reason to love the outcome (mature alert):

To reach perfection, you gotta close the deal, and with an enormous target painted on your back, no less. The Dolphins did. The Pats didn't. Case closed.Comment
