    Things I Think I Thought

On the drive home from Indy. In no particular order.

That I-70 across Indiana/Ohio is one of the more boring drives I've done.

That driving in snow sucks. Glad the mountains were ok.

Anybody know how long/far apart the hash mark lane dividers are? At one point visibility was down to about 5 ahead of the van.

That I am glad I didn't get that cartop carrier else we'd be hauling even more crap, er stuff.

The de rigeur wonderment at the folks who think their 3000 lb ricer would win against a 80000 lb big rig.

That my BIL is an @ss. More on this in another thread.

That I hope the trucker who used the truck ramp was wearing brown pants.

    That I think I need a blog.

That a G&T would taste really good right now. I thought that a lot, starting 4:30ish. Now I'm drinking one.

That my 3yr old and 10m old are really, really good travelers.
    David

    I give up. What's a G&T? A groove and tongue?

I get to do that one on Sunday on my way to Denver.

I just love doing those cross country drives every so often. It allows you the time to think through all the stuff you don't have time to think about otherwise.

Way too easy. How would I get that?

Re' boring drives: I would counter you with I-90 from Madison to Chicago through Rockville, and I-70 West of Salina, KS. Pretty much anywhere flat and brown with bad radio stations is lousy.

I had to drive through MN and IA a lot this holiday. Main complaint is washerboard road through MN on I-90. There is a reason we pay taxes to support road maintenance. Unfortunately MN hasn't figured this out. My teeth are still sore from the vibration.

My chief complaint on heavily travelled roads in US is that many drivers haven't figured out that faster traffic should be on left and you should only be in left lane to pass.

It was nice to see that you gave the little folks in that back seat an 'atta boy/girl' for their travel manners. I did a Albuquerque to Gettysburg trip once with a two y.o. and a four y.o. in the back seat of one of the early Hundai's. It sure *does* make it easier on the adults when the little ones are content. BTW, that little care really impressed me, not that I'd want to drive it every day at my age.
                Blessings,
                Chiz

One more thing I think I thought - Satellite radio is da bomb. It will be even better when the kiddies are old enough to use the headsets when they watch movies/music. Then I can listen to the radio for the entire trip.

We should have carpooled! We did the drive up to Ohio and back with my 3 yr old and 1 yr old. They impressed us as well.

If you like to learn, check out CDs from The Teaching Company (http://www.teach12.com/teach12.asp?ai=16281). They get top-notch professors and record lectures -- they are *fantastic*! On this drive we listened to more of one of my favorites so far -- essentially a music appreciation course in about fifty 45-minute lectures (http://www.teach12.com/ttcx/coursede...2.aspx?cid=700).

Other good ones in history, religion, science, etc. Very highly recommended for those that like to learn while they drive, but wait for the sales (huge discounts) unless you have money to blow.

Alex, where do you go in Ohio, if you don't mind me asking? I took 70 because of weather concerns but our normal route to Indy is up 77 to Charleston, 64 west about 15 minutes to 34 to 35 to Ohio SR 32 to Cincy and then on to Indy. It cuts the corner and is shorter mileagewise, and much prettier. So we can travel a little slower. If you are going up to the Columbus area you can take 32 to 23 north.

Yes, I read "70" as "77" actually. We go to Port Clinton, which is on the lake between Cleveland and Toledo. So, 40W to 52N to 77N and through Cleveland. Sometimes we cut the corner at the top and take 250 to Sandusky -- like you say, much prettier drive, but the highways are clearer in winter weather usually.

...then to Mentor on the other side of Cleveland, then back on the PA Turnpike through VA to visit more family. Lots o' driving.... goes pretty quicly when the kids are napping, though!
