You can rent a truck at Lowes or HD for $20 for 75 minutes (not sure of the time limit). And I dont *think* they charge per mile like Uhaul. But you'll definitely want to double check on that.
too good a deal...?

I had to move a 900-lb. media safe last year (by myself). Local truck rental place rented me a box truck with a liftgate (barely would lift that safe and me). There was a mileage charge, but I think the whole thing ran about 50 bucks.Comment

Here I am, trying to figure out GAWR and GVWR and GCVWRs, when all I had to do was add up the weights of my b-i-l and his wife and her sister when they occupied the last row : I am sure they added upto 600lbs easily
! So with careful handling (and no other passengers) should be able to manage with the minivan.

Few things to point out:
The pictured jet TS is a cabinet saw. Not a contractor saw. There is a gigantic difference between cabinet and contractor saws. Either this guy dosen't know the difference, or he's showing you a picture to get you to show up at his place and buy a POS saw for 50 bucks. Jet makes saws that fit into the POS 50 dollar contractor saw catagory.
If you show up, and it is indeed a 500+ lb cabinet saw, buy it. If it has a 3 phase motor (learn what that means), don't let that scare you away. You can get a good single phase replacement motor and sell the 3 phaser off and you'll probably break about even.
Bring tools with you. A cabinet saw wont fit in your minivan. But a cabinet, motor, and tabletop might. Plus, broken down, you have a fighting chance of lifting it yourself.
If you can rent like a moving van or borrow a pick-up, you can also slide the saw right up to the tailgate, then flip the saw onto the bed, table side down, and transport it upside down. This minimizes lifting required and is fairly easy to do. Again, take your tools, and remove any heavy stuff you can before doing this, like the motor, and you have a fighting chance of doing it yourself.
I look forward to hearing how this one turns out.-John

Good points John - and that's what brought me here for advice : he keeps saying contractor, but also points me to the woodcraft page showing the cabinet saw
.
Anyway, by talking to him yet another time I think I know why he did not want me there earlier than this afternoon - his neighbour's b-in-law wants to have a look at it first
! So I am not holding my breath to clinch this deal
.
He did say he himself has used it in the past (so he does know a thing or two of WW), and also says, another CL advt is exactly like his saw - again contradicting himself, as that one is a 708100, a nice contractor saw. Of course, still a steal at $50, nothing I'm gonna pass up...
Waiting for his call now...

I hate it when people *******ize phrases "exactly the same." Here's what you do...He did say he himself has used it in the past (so he does know a thing or two of WW), and also says, another CL advt is exactly like his saw - again contradicting himself, as that one is a 708100, a nice contractor saw. Of course, still a steal at $50, nothing I'm gonna pass up...
Go look at the saw. If it isn't a cabinet saw, hand him $5 and start loading the saw in your minivan. When he complains, tell him your $5 bill is EXACTLY THE SAME as a $50 bill.Comment

sorry everybody, got y'all excited only to let you down

Don't be surprised if it's up there again real soon... with a higher price. Often, Craigslisters find out that their price is too low when they get like a thousand responses to their ad, and rather than look like welshers, they tell everybody it's sold, only to re-list it later. Sad, but true.
