    Cancelled Waterskiing For Today

It was 57 deg when I got up this AM. It may warm up some later. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Guess what choice phrases raced thru my mind?! It was ~ 18F and snowed and iced all day.

10-15 years ago, we used to ski from early April to early November up here. The coldest combo we skied in was 43F air temp, 36F water..... Even with dry suits...your hands, face, and feet feel like they're burning!

    Enjoy your cool run!

Mike - you suck! Our high today is only supposed to be around 60. Dustmight, I've windsurfed twice in weather that cold but I had on a full wetsuit, gloves and boots. Although windsurfers probably don't spend as much time in the water as skiers do. At least if you do it right you don't.

I've water skied in temps of mid to low 50's wearing a wetsuit. The problem is the frozen grin that has to defrost later. Actually it was 51* this AM. I misread my gauge. It's supposed to go to 69* as a high.

Actually, I believe it qualifies as grazing...

I haven't gone waterskiing that cold but I did ride Hunter-Jumpers (jumping horses over fences) once when it was -7 in the indoor arena. We had to stop every so often and brush the frost off the horse's muzzles.

It took two hours to take care of the horses after riding, then we got to brush the frost off of us.

                        .

I always suspected Floridians had a higher freezing point, what with all the complaining when the temperture dips below 70.

I've been in both... Our 50 seems colder than your 10. I have no idea why.

I've tried to evaluate that question. It could be caused by the relative elevation differentials with respect to sea level. Topographical interferences affecting Gulf Stream breezes. OTH, it could be caused by the phenomenon of hot air rising...(not yours of course).

I have a tough time sympathizing with my sister when she complains of being cold in FLA....usually below 70F . This time of year, we're coatless when it gets much over 50F, and in short sleeves over 60F.

BTW - It was nasty cold and windy this morning, and we got about a foot of snow on top of our ice in the last 24 hours.....hope its not a sign of long blustery winter. FWIW, I"m in favor of global warming this time of year. I send all six of the kids outside to release the contents of our aerosol cans, but it doesn't appear to be helping any.
