When I got out, in 1964, the M-16 was still a rumor. I had an M-1 in basic and survey school. I shot expert in basic with an old M-1.
In the 101st we had M-14's, which I thought was a pretty good rifle. When we had a chance to shoot at long distance at the old KD range, we [illegally] modified our rifles. We bedded the receiver in the stock with fiber-glass to stop the wiggle. We filled the rear circle sight with solder and drilled a smaller hole in it. The listed maximum effective range with ball was 460 meters. We held a pretty decent pattern at 1000 yards with the modification.
I don't, currently, own any long guns. I have a semi-auto 9mm Uzi, a 9mm Beretta, .357 Colt Python long barrel and .38 S&W Chief Special revolvers. My state is not at all gun friendly. My Uzi was grandfathered in, and registered in 1989.
Nothing worse than a liberal with a gun.
