I puffed once, but never inhaled. Does that count?
And no it wasn't an illegal weed, just a straight cigarette.

I did smoke a couple of Cigars long ago. Even bought a pipe, used it twice and gave it up.

I quit 11 years ago after 25 years of puffing. I was up to about three packs a day. It was hard, I used patches and would set there trying to squeeze that patch onto me as hard as I could. Even now I have an occasional dream of puffing away on a Camel non filter.

I had some traumatic experiences with my experimentation with tobacco products. The first one was when I was about 10 or 12 and my father caught me smoking. He said if you wanna smoke you're gonna. He opened a fresh pack of cigarettes and made me smoke one right after the other for the whole pack. Thought I was gonna die. Swore I'd never smoke again. Too bad he didn't use the same punishment when he caught me reading Playboy magazine.

The second was in my later teens when I had a convertible. Thought I'd be cool smoking a pipe. Well, I went to the beach one day. Driving along the shoreline where all the babes strut their stuff. I had on one of those nylon tank swimsuits. Cruising along with the wind blowing my hair and a puffin' on freshly tamped bowl of some nice cherry blend, and a goddess caught my eye. I turned my head to get a good look, and the bowl hit the window pillar and dumped out the bowl of burning tobacco in my lap... you know where. From behind it musta looked like I was doing the Hotsey Totsey dance, or was purging the devil from my soul, and came close to plowing into a bus bench.

I had to drive straight home because I had very little left to the front of my swim suit, and needed a ice pack.

You forgot the "I've quit dozens of times!"

I started when I was five. Was smoking a pack of Marlboro Reds a day when I was 15. "Mostly" quit through my early 30s. Finally quit for good when I also quit drinking about 6 years ago (I am 42).

                Some random thoughts....

First of all C'man, your convertible story just about had me falling out of my chair! Hee hee!

The last time I was in Kentucky or the Carolinas (been about six years now), I noticed there was no "no smoking" section in the restaurants. EVERYWHERE I went had ash trays all over....

I can't ever run for President. Not only did I inhale, I don't regret it. Plus I associate with known Greenpeacers and Friends of the Earth.

Like many, I never started smoking because my father was a four-pack-a-day smoker of unfiltered Pall Malls. I left home for good 30 years ago, and when I open old boxes of junk from then, I can still smell the stale smoke.

He lived to age 72, coughing his lungs out from emphysema. His addiction was so bad that he'd take off his oxygen, go outside and smoke a cig, then come back in and put the oxy back on.

I can always tell when one of my students has lit up in the restroom. They reek!

Did you need a ice pack in your lap due to the burns or the blonde bombshell?

Actually she was a red head with long silky flowing hair covering her shoulders, all the way down her back. She had on this tiny black string bikini that barely covered her perfectly shaped....uh...what was the question?

My dad smoked heavily. PalMal Reds (no filters on those suckers).

One day when I was about 8, I asked if I could get a smoke off his cigarette. He handed it to me and I took my first puff. I coughed up a lung, 2 kidneys, and a couple of things that I wasn't ab;e to identify, but am fairly sure that were important. That was also my last puff.

Honestly I think my dad knew what he was doing when he gave it to me. And what the results would be.

Better than my old man. Died at 56 after having half a lung removed and the cancer came back. Lung cancer, Throat Cancer, Heart working at 14% capacity, and that's what we know about. Smoked till the day he died.

Went with my sister to help clean up his place one weekend. We walked in to find him sitting in his recliner, with the O2 in his nose, puffing away on his cigarette. We walked out and wouldn't go back in until he put it out. When we left, we kept looking in the rear view mirror waiting to see the mushroom cloud explosion when he lit up and set off the O2 tank.

I also saw the Modern Marvels show.

It only reaffirmed my feelings about cigarettes. Do not smoke and never will especially because my mom would kill me. She is a repiratory therapist.

I watched my father in law die at age 43, in 1963. It was cancer of the nerves (at least that's what they called it). I didn't know if smoking had anything to do with it, but I quit right then, cold turkey. Never looked back.
