    A frustrated BORG shopper

Man smashes Home Depot checkout stand with pry bar he was trying to buy

I would love to see that trial.

I thought I was the early riser here. Can't sleep huh? Try counting edges of boards in a stack. Anyway, like you I wish I was there to see it. It was probably at the self check out. I never use that darn thing. We have grocery stores (Winn-Dixie) here that have them too.

So the guy got away. surprised that he didn't get chased by some employees. But, the reason he didn't was that there probably wasn't any around...know what I mean?

The last time I was in a Home Depot was more than five years ago, in one of the many 24-hour Maryland ones.

Talk about scarcity of employees...you'd see more mice on the floor than workers.

Anyway, I wondered at first why the guy left the pry-bar in the cart, and I've got two mutually exclusive theories: a) usually a mild-mannered white collar sort, he was totally shocked at what he'd done, and the resulting adrenaline rush--fight or flight--obscured all rational thought; or, b) as a dumb thugish type, didn't want to be caught with the incriminating pry-bar but didn't think about the fingerprint issue.

I've got two mutually exclusive theories: a) The guy was an ordinary guy with no criminal history and wouldn't hurt a fly. But, his girlfriend of several months was Latino and in her fits of rage would swear at him in Spanish. Not knowing any Spanish, and getting an "F" in 10th grade Spanish, went ballistic at the onset of a machine speaking Spanish to him. And b) The guy ran out of the store (he might have been an ardent jogger) and left the pry bar thinking it was finished in the 10D-3856W-x920B4 finish that promises no fingerprints as advertised on some of the new refrigerator coatings.

So, I'm just guessing, and I'm sure there will be experts in ballistic behavior that will chime in here with current data.

I think a good lawyer (Excuse the use of an oxymoron ) just might convince him to try to plea bargain.

I will use the self check line when the stores give me a discount for doing their clerk's job!

They neglected to mention that he wasted 30 minutes looking for an "apron" to pull that particular pry bar down out of overstock, and another 30 minutes waiting on line at the checkout because there was only one open. What set him off was being ordered by the machine (in Spanish) to put a 3-foot-long, 5-pound pry bar in a bag before proceeding...

I guess it's safe to say English is his first language.

I wonder if he's smashed his phone when he accidentally pushed "2" for Spanish.

I'm guessing that if you're buying a pry bar and a hack saw at 9 pm, either you're up to no good, or you've got a really good story to tell.

Of course he left the pry bar in his shopping cart. Taking it without paying for it would just be... wrong.

Don't blame the employees for not chasing him, two HD employees in OKC got fired for chasing a shoplifter. They caught him and held him until police arrived, but they were fired because chasing shoplifters is against store policy

So is he gonna get a Jury trial?

A jury of his peers (aka other frustrated borg shoppers who can't find someone in an apron who wants to do their job and not stand around listening to the game?).

Can you guess in these parts, I think the borg would pay HIS defense costs?
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

It actually stands for Big Orange Retail Giant, mainly Home Depot. It also is used to refer to the big box stores, like Lowes.
