This forum is a very friendly one, and has a family feel... I will from now on include my first name in my signature line. I think we should respect those who do not want to post their names for whatever reason.

I tend to agree with this statement and most everyone else's . To me it is a personal preference. However, I think a person's internet handle is a great form of expression and may even spark a conversation between people.

I use Hoakie because it is MY nickname (derived from my last name) and I have been using it for nearly twenty years. It is how I am known to a lot of people (mainly socially ). There were many people I hung out with in college that never knew or couldn't remember being told my real first name. Heck, my wife still prefers it over my real name...(dunno if that is a good thing ).

Anyway. That is how I roll

          Hello,

My name is Paul and I'm a tool addict. It's been less than 24 hours since my last tool purchase. Can anyone remind me what the 12 steps were again?

I've gone by many names. Let's see, I was Chris Collins, Russ Michaels, "The Jammer", Jay Michaels and Jammin J Foxx. That was back in my radio daze.. now I'm just plain 'ol Gavin, my friends call me "Gos" or "Gav". Feel free to call me whatever, just not late to supper

Ken I know You and Most of the older Family here know My health problems, which is why I go by the alias of DUD. However I always sign with My Nickname of 63 years, Bill, which is short for William.

I know also that most of the older Members know how I feel about this fine forum. It is indeed My Home, I have a lot of visitors, but I feel like I have been accepted here. Thanks for bringing this up, one of the BT3 Family Members. Bill

I would have to agree with the "freedom of choice" when it comes to this issue.

I liked Ken's idea of signing with your name but I chose to change mine to my nickname. I adopted it from my wonderful uncle who taught me how to play baseball. He was an exceptional fellow, always had time for any kid. He coached and trained several young men who went on to play pro ball. He never got paid, never wanted too. He just loved teaching baseball. The baseball park in my hometown in Missouri is named after him. So in his honor, I am out of the closet, officially as "RAGS" formerly know as "ragswl4".

My friends call me Mike, but my family has always called me Michael. I have on occasion answered to "Stoner" (in college although I never did drugs, many at Clemson only knew me as "Stoner"), "Smuck", "Putz", "Hey You", and now-a-days "Honey".

I've been first-name-sig-enabled for a long time, so my position ought to be evident.

I just can't help but think of my grandparents, neither of whom went by given first names. Everyone addressed my grandma as Toots or Tootsie. Her name wasn't all that horrible, but no one really thought twice about it. I never knew her name until I saw some genealogy paperwork. My grandpa would go by his initials (O.E.) in formal situations, or a last name-based nickname in others (which was almost always).

So I'm not even used to my immediate family using their first names, how do you like them apples?

Good thread, Ken. I have to admit that my name is not Ed62. It's just plain Ed (Edward). But nicknames work well for those not wanting to use their proper name. I can think of several pro baseball players who everyone knows by their nickname, but few know their given names.

Altough I se no harm in using your "real" first name, its everyone's choice and I'll fight like h**l to keep it that way.

BTW, Bruce Cohen isn't my real name, its Zelda Schwartz, not.

You can call me Chris or Kobayashi but can't call me Chris D. because my brother already owns that one

At first I was concern about using my real first name on my signature line but I have a twin brother on this forum. Same first name and last name, same state and we both came from the Philippines so I figure it makes no difference to be anonymous or concern if any of my co-worker, friends and family see it. I also have a co-worker who is also a member on this community and his board name is WarEagle.

Speaking of Chris D., I have not seen him post in a while.. I should call him and make sure he's okay.
