One of the best aspects of a forum is anonymity for those who want it, and as long as we are civil to each other, rather than throwing poop around, there should not be any objection. I think I can make the same contribution to the "community" either way. As for "inventing" a name, isn't that exactly what we do when we come up with a handle? Thought so. So I hope that y'all can see your way clear to keep calling me Uncle Cracker, or Uncle C, or just Cracker. I'd appreciate it.

Eventually when you get comfortable with this group, and your situation(s) stabilizes, I bet you end up using your first name, in a pm. That is exactly what I was refering to by getting comfortable. I have a couple of people who HAVE to do things either anonamously (spelling) or via other people posting, part of the reason I get along with them, is I treat them just like Joe blow off the street. Until then, see you posting around, Cracker.

So your real name isn't ED209?

Awesome thread! I (usually) put additional info in my profile when I feel truly comfortable with the culture of a forum. (It happened almost instantly here).

                  Ken,

I have always used my real name since it makes it easier to remember what my log on name is.

When I was in 7th or 8th grade I read in TIME that Blythe Danner had given birth to a daughter...this was the first time I'd was aware that somebody else had my name. Nobody had heard of it, nobody could spell it.

Twenty years later I'd been to Wales and actually gotten a mug that was pre-personalized--a big deal if you've got an unusual name.

Thirty years later, my name was becoming more familiar over here (though people still couldn't spell it).

Then people started asking me if it was my real name (no way to answer that with enough irony). And now some people can actually spell it!

Holy Cow! I just realized that I have been using my real name all these years.
I would switch to a fake name, but then how would I cash all the checks people send me?

Most everyone knows my first name on here but its Melissa, for the new members. I will probably change my sig line later on. I know that my boss at work has said I don't have to wear a name tag because of one, the shift I work and who I have to deal with most of the time. I work a graveyard shift at a 7-11, and have to deal with some weird and drunk people. And at work I don't tell just anyone my name.

On another note about 7 years ago now I lost a great grandmother and had always known her name was ETHEL. But come to find out at the funeral her name was really REBECCA ETHEL ....could never figure out why she didn't go by her first name, but then again she was 104 when she passed. So long story short, we named our daughter Rebecca Sandra, which was great grandmas given name and her middle name is my mothers name. Its funny what names people go by.
Mrs. Wallnut a.k.a (the head nut).
