A once in a lifetime snapshot!

I just returned from an 8 day whirlwind trip with my oldest son's Cub Scout den. We took 8 2nd year Webelos to:
    • St. Louis Arch
    • Camp McClintock in Bartlesville, OK
    • Woolaroc in Bartlesville, OK (VERY COOL!)
    • The National Scouting Museum in Irving, TX
    • Crater of Diamonds SP in Arkansas
    • Shiloh National Military Park in Shiloh, TN
While in Shiloh, we flushed a huge bird out of a tree. One of the dads yelled "Look at the size of that buzzard!!!" I snapped the following pic of the "buzzard". My heart was pumping 1,000,000 MPH!!!

Nice Bald Eagle in flight. Once rare but getting more numerous in the lower 48.
In Alaska they're pretty numerous, And they're neat to spot sitting in tall Spruce trees. Look for a "wine bottle with a golf ball on top" was what the guides suggested to look for.

That's a great shot Sam, but when I read the title of the thread, I was expecting to see a shot of dust in Kirby's shed.

Fortunate enough to see that often down here, especially while on the river. Still pumps me up.

Nice picture Sam. I am still amazed at Eagles and how elegant they look in flight. And I hear that they took them off the "endangered" list either last week or sometime this week.

I saw a while ago on one of the Discovery Channels a segment about birds of prey and I'm pretty sure I've got my numbers right. I understood the narration to say that if an eagle could read, it could read newsprint at 900 yards. I'm thinkin' maybe with all the surgery I'm gettin' I could have eagle eyes transplanted.

Great picture Sam. There's something like 1500 nesting pairs around here so you "see" them pretty often if you're an outdoorsy type, but it tends to be at a distance so the resolution/clarity of your picture is great.

That picture is worth blowing up and getting it framed. I agree with what Alex said, it looks like the eagle is looking at you!

Great shot. Save that picture. Maybe someday your Webelo will turn into an Eagle.
