    Water in Basement

We have been getting some of the Texas and Oklahoma rains, so I have been checking Our basement twice a day. The part that leaks is 12' X 12', I have an automatic sump pump in there but don't trust it.

Yesterday afternoon it was empty, this morning it had not kicked on and I measured it at 4". Somehow it had come unplugged and so it couldn't kick on, so I plugged it back in and out it went.

My question is at 4" deep and 12' square how much water was in My basement. I would just like to know. Thanks Bill

      I get 48 cu feet. (12 x 12 x 1/3) (not gallons!)
      since 1 cu ft. = 7.5 gallons
      Then it's 360 gallons.

I am not Loring but if I am not mistaken 12' X 12' X 4" will get you 48 Cubic Foot! Each cubic foot is about 7.45 Gallons (US), so we are talking about 360 gallons of water That is a lot for any basement

        Anybody else?

            Another way to get there

            Volumn is 144" X 144" X 4" = 82944 cubic inches

there are 231 cubic inches in a gallon.

            82944/231 = 359.06 gallons, or 359 gallons, 8 ounces.

I knew it was a bunch of water when it was that deep. I just didn't know how much and wanted to know. I appreciate Your help. Everyone knows I'm not good at math. Thanks, Bill
