Did This Happen?

I heard this story for years and wondered if it was true or not. The way I heard it was a young couple went out on lovers lane in the woods in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. After their trist, their car wouldn't start so the guy told the girl to stay in the car while he went for help.

Some time later, police pulled up to the car and approached the girl and told her to exit the car and not look around. She was taken back by curiousity and when she got out of the car looked back and saw her boyfriend's head on the roof of the car.

I think I heard this as far back as the late 60's, can't remember. Has anyone else heard this one?

Similar to the one I heard. Couple heard something scraping against the roof. Looked to find a bloody body hanging by it's feet from the tree.

Most of these urban myths serve a purpose, in this case to convince randy young teenagers they shouldn't go out necking (ahem) in the woods. Probably didn't convince too many young kids, certainly not me when I was young and footloose.

I thought the story was a teaching tool for young adule males. If the car doesn't start, send the girl for help!

Heard a version of that in the late 50s, then another in the 60s, then another ....

That story is so old, that in the early 80's, with it's bunch of slasher movies, a group of my friends, used to dress up, and tap axes on people's cars, at the make out rock quary.


Then it stopped being a lovers lane, and became a party place for a bit.
