Larry has a good idea.
Not sure how much wood working you do (or what else you might do) but maybe you bought a certain amount of chemicals in a large enough quantity that it triggered something. Remember fertilizer took out a building in Oklahoma. I would sure hope buying a gallon (even 5 gallons) of paint remover (or whatever) would NOT trigger something.
Maybe someone saw something in your shop covered up and from
the angle and lighting it looked like __________ so they called you in.
Hate for you have to spend money on an attorney, but it sure does sounds like the safest way to go. Maybe an attorney could find out what it's about.Ric

They did not specify anything about the nature of the interview? Like what kind of threat?
Not sure how extensive your woodworking is, but I suppose if you work with finishes and such, someone might have smelled the chemicals and reported your place a potential meth lab - so what they really want to do is take a look at your place. From what I read about them, active meth labs are easily recognized by trained professionals.
I belive it this was the case then the police or someone would have shown up already. At least in our area that is the case, I believe.
Good luck Ed, hope to hear from you by Thursday night or Friday morning. If you need bail then maybe we can all chip in and see what we can do
. Which I am sure won't happen.

If this was something big I don't think they'd call you to set up a meeting. I think they'd just show up.
I had a federal investigator pull me out of class in high school. it was to interview me as a character witness for a Marine buddy of mine getting a top secret clearance for presidental detail.
you guys have got me beat, I'm only a Secret clearance, uncle same has known all about me for about 13 years.Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. - Thomas EdisonComment

Just to swing the pendulum back the other way, it's obvious you're WAAAAAAAY over the legal limit on clamps.O.K. here's the thing. The call came from Chicago, IL. I live in Indiana. I haven't even been to Chicago for probably 4 years or so. I don't drink (so the bar theory is out), I'm almost always home, I don't travel more than 20 miles from home, and I have never made a threat to anyone. I've also never been arrested, I'm 69 years old, very family oriented, lived in this area most of my life, and I have nothing to hide. Now, does that mean someone couldn't find something in my home they could use as an excuse to pursue something like this?
[snip]
If you don't hear from me by Thursday (tomorrow) afternoon, you know something didn't go my way.
Ed
Seriously, like most everybody, I urge you to do this interview at your lawyer's office. It might also be somebody checking your place out for stealable items. Needless to say, a shop is full of them.
I just don't buy the old "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear" argument. Seems too many regimes have used that excuse for whatever is on their adgenda.

I talked to the investigator again today. I allegedly threatened someone. I'll find out more about it tomorrow. I have the right to stop the show at any time after it starts. Not expecting any problem at all. Hope I'm not wrong.
If I need financial assistance, I'll just rob my kid's piggy banks. There are enough of them.

Ok, see, you really really need a lawyer. He or she will be able to find out a lot more than you can about this whole thing, and more than likely can stop it all pretty quickly. I still would go get a video camera if you don't have one.David

Ed I hope everything turns out for you!!!!!
Since you made the threat against someone (or is it plural) it looks like a very good idea to have an attorney present. The money you spend now may save you bundles later.
The attorney will know what transpired at this meeting first hand, verse you trying to remember what happened. A few key words may make a big difference. Also would give a third person account verse he said - you said.
A video camera or two is a great idea in addition to the attorney, not in place of. A tape recorder as a backup would also be good. Can never be to careful with things like this.Ric

Ed, forget the cameras and all the other bull****. Cut through to the chase, get an attorney and make the authorities sh** or get off the pot. Yours is one of a bunch of cases this guy is carrying. The inspector probably wants the case closed as bad as you probably now do. If he hasn't presented it to the DA or City Prosecutor he's still building the case, so . . . use your attorney to move it along and get it resolved.A man without a shillelagh, is a man without an expidient.Comment

Ok Ed. Call the investigator back and tell him you'll be talking with an attorney and need to reschedule the interview for when the attorney can be present. That, you or the attorney will let him know when and where.
I've been thinking that you were tangentially involved in something. Now that they are pointing a finger at YOU, I'd be all about finding an attorney and letting him handle it.
You can get criminal defense attorneys that handle these sorts of things (non-trial) at a fixed fee. Pretty cheap, too.
I think we all feel you'd be absolutely INSANE to let this guy into your house to answer ANY questions.
BTW, if this later turns into something bigger, not having had an attorney at this stage is going to turn into a major problem.
Ed, don't talk to this guy w/o an attorney. It may be the mistake of your life.Comment
