I have a Craftsman 15" drill press(22900) and 14" band saw(22410) both with lights. If I were to use the lights on both machines I would have to use 4 recepticles(2 for lights and 2 for power to machines). Question is can I wire the lights to the power so that when the machine is plugged in and turned on, the lights will have power also so I dont have to take up 2 extra recepticles? Thanks

sure, you have the choice if you know what you're doing toI have a Craftsman 15" drill press(22900) and 14" band saw(22410) both with lights. 1)wire the lamp after the motor switch so it comes on with the motor
2) wire the lamp before the switch so theres only one plug but they operate independently.
of course there's a $3 option - buy and install a triple tap or a 2-to-6way outlet
for $5-6 HF (12 ga with light) and others have a 1 foot cord with a plug at one end and a three-way female receptacle at the other end. Won't take up but one original receptacle.
and there's the $20 option - buy a Sears autoswitch to control the light automatically when the drill is started, uses one plug.
For some anal reason I hate to muck up bought items unless it can be done internally and discreetly.Last edited by LCHIEN; 02-19-2007, 04:04 PM.

IMHO, that is the way to go; that's what I did on my BS. Actually, I wired in a receptacle box before the switch so that I still have one spare receptacle. The overhead lamp just plugs in and runs independently from the BS. That way you can use the light to setup jigs, fences, etc. without having to have the BS on.
And there's a spare power point if I never need to add another accessory. Total cost $0 (all spare parts lying around or salvaged from other dead items).Don't be stupid, the universe is watching.Comment

Here's a couple of pictures. By sketch, did you mean wiring diagram, or location of outlet box? The gooseneck lamp I got lucky and picked up two for $7 each at Lowes many moons ago when they were being cleared out. The two pictures show the location of the lamp and the outlet box.
Sorry the pictures are so bad. These were a couple I had on the hard drive. Can't take any more right now, as my tools are in storage until we get settled in here. I miss my tools!
