Fess-up, who needs to lose weight?

Okay, the sleep apnea thread was interesting and raised the question, how many of us are overweight and need to do something about it?

Several years ago I started a campaign to lose weight through diet (just diet, no exercise) and dropped from 374 pounds (I'm 6' 2") to 220 pounds. This took about a year and a half. In the last two years my weight has crept up about twenty pounds or so, but my body shape hasn't changed that much (regained some muscle mass after the weight loss, for example).

Weight loss is a panacea: I was absolutely adult onset, but wasn't taking meds. I had sleep apnea. I had terrible back problems that were not completely related to being overweight, but dropping pounds has certainly helped. My knees used to hurt like heck. I had no energy. The list goes on and on.

I still need to lose more weight. How about you?

I need to drop about 15 pounds to get down to my ideal weight of 158 (5' 8"). I'd be happy to drop 5 or 10 of the 15. My motivation is elevated blood pressure and high cholesterol. The doctors have suggested I start taking blood pressure meds but weight loss and diet are the right way to control those problems.

Most I've ever been is 25 pounds over ideal and I don't really want to go there again.

We very rarely eat fried foods, beef is a treat, and we avoid keeping typical snacks like chips and cookies in the house. I'll have a beer or a glass fo wine with dinner if I'm not working with power tools or flying but just one. We do eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. We take leftovers from restaurant meals home, and there are almost always plenty of them. Now that it's warming up a bit, I'll get back on the bicycle.

When I graduated from H.S. I was in the 310# range. I went away to college and got away from the family owned bar/restraunt where I short order cooked and was a bartender. In two years away I lost over 100#. After graduating I went to work traveling all over the U.S and maintained about 240 where I felt really good. I am currently at 270 and want to get back to the 240-250 range.

Thanks for the reminder, now I just have to do it.

I need to lose some weight. I should lose about 20 pounds, which would put me about 20 pounds over weight.

LOML and myself are talking about walking every night. I know it will turn into about 1-3 times a week. She really needs it more than me. She will buy stuff (equipment, pills, etc) to help lose weight then leave them sit in their original box. If she would just get up off the couch and do something it would help.

Myself I have trouble finding time, normally to busy do things around the house, community service, helping out a friend, etc. (my free time I spend on this site ). Got to learn to say that word..... it's ...... a ...... can't think what it is....... I don't think it's in my dictionary........ wife says I say "YES" to often..... it's suppose to help me not say YES, Oh well you know what I'm talking about.

After a job change, I've dropped close to 60 lbs. Don't think I want to lose any more but would rather put back on about 10 to 15 (not via beer). Currently weighing in at about 178. (5' 7")

Oooohhh, you are going to be posting one of those "I'm in trouble" thread after your wife sees this

As for me, I badly need to lose these extra #'s and we are going to do the biggest loser at work. I need to lose about 50#. Wareagle is going to be keeping tabs of participants weight every week. Whoever loses the most #'s at the end of the competition wins the pot. I think the entry fee is $5.00 per person.

I need to get my roadbike out of the basement and prep it up for spring as I need to get back to riding 20 miles a day. So hopefully by summer I'll be down to 180 #.

I need to loose about 20 lbs to get back to 175. If I convert the 20 lbs into muscle that would be ok too. I have just started a small exercise routine and am eating a bit healthier. Even when I was really skinny I still had a pot belly, I'd really like to lose it. when I am thinner and exercising I feel alot better physically and I have alot more energy.

I'm 5'8" and I've been within a pound or two of 162 for more years than I can remember. Never really been over that, but I've always been fairly active. I eat what I want, but that's probably not a good thing either.

I'm in the midst of a weight loss campaign. At 5'9" I once tipped the scales at 263. A few years ago I managed to get down to 196 but have since gained half of it back.

I restarted again on January 21st at 233 and am currently weighing in at 214.

I was 165 lbs until I got married. I'm 44 and coming up on our 5th anniversary in July. Now I'm 195 and I hate the added weigh. LOML and I eat well but we don't get enough exercise. Oh one thing the Mrs put on more weigh than I.

3 years ago I lost 80lbs to 180 (5' 10") pre Type 2. Then I quit smoking 2 years ago and allowed myself to eat anything. I can only fight one battle at a time I gained all of it back plus a little. As of the beginning of the year I am back on my diabeteic control plan and am down to 248 going to 180.

                        Sam,

I am currently at 233# and am afraid that the Shimano Dura Ace WH-7700 wheel set I have on my road bike won't be able to handle it. What do you think? What wheelset do you have on your bike? I need to get a good training wheelset and when I am down below 200# maybe I will put the Shimano wheelset back on my bike.

                        Thanks!

I am 59 years old, 5' 7", up until about a year ago I weighed 156. Yikes, heart attack, then another, two stents, BP meds, Anti-Coag meds, Lipitor for a year. **** with that, I retired. Now 139 lbs, cholesterol 148 (take fish oil and flax seed oil, it lowered mine levels by 40 point and raised my HDL by double, this stuff works). Don't throw rocks but the secret to weight loss is burn more calories than you eat. My wife who really wasn't overweight, but wanted to loose a few pounds. She just lost 12 lbs in 4 weeks. Good tool on the web is www.my-calorie-counter.com. Lets you record what you eat and it does all the counting for you. She used that to make sure she stayed under her desired number of calories for the day. Good luck to all who are trying to lose.

I am morbidly obese. I am 6'0" and at my top weight last year I was 354. I am currently around 270 and still loosing. My goal is 220 but I will never hit it. I do have before photos when I get below 230 or so I'll post before and after. I am using moderate carb diet and a crap load of exercise.
