lost another shop pencil to the shopvac

Seems like I lose a pencil or two every month to the shop vac. I'm just not very discriminating with my vacuuming and always underestimate the suction power when using the wand to clean up my bench.

So, what's the most "interesting" thing you've ever sucked up with your shopvac or DC?

I managed to suck up a set of keys once. Our driveway is gravel and my 3 year old gets great joy out of vacuuming up rocks with the vac.

I went to use my DC one time and it didn't have any suction. I took the hose off and it was full of leaves thanks to my grandsons.

I once sucked up a newsweek magazine into a lawnmower.

It was the neighbor's mail they were on vacation and I place it on the driveway while I was mowing the lawn. I happened to roll the running lawnmover past the pile of mail, I thought a safe distance away but the spine of the mag was toward the mower and the top pages flipped over followed by the rest of the magazine and before I knew what happened, whump! and a pile of shredded paper appeared as the suction of the blades pulled it under and into the blade.

        Very impressive.

If I'm working in the garage just after sunset I'll sometimes get harassed by some inch-long jet black ugly and noisy flying bugs. I don't know what they are besides loud, disgusting, and apparently stupid as they fly into things over and over. The Ridgid shop vac does a nice job of playing ground-to-air assault capturing them.

That's probably the most interesting thing I've vacuumed up. Just as often though I'm using the Ridgid vac as a blower... blowing sawdust off the bench, sawdust & dirt out of the garage, shooting small leaves down the driveway, bits of paper that blow into my driveway (curse of living at the end of a cul-de-sac - my driveway ends up collecting the entire street's junk) and trails of marching ants. I blast everything into the gutter and then vacuum it up... seems to go quicker than trying to vacuum the whole bloody driveway. I find blowing off the bench is easier than vacuuming it - easier to get into the crevices that way. And I haven't sucked up any pencils though I have blown a couple onto the floor. Does wonders for spare leads in mechanical pencils...

Sheesh, I think I need to check my shop vac...

I am missing shop pencils, screwdrivers, tape measures and a set of spare keys for the truck. Just maybe they are inside. I haven't checked in the last year or so...

I accidentally flushed a pager. How do you expalin to your boss that the company's on-call pager swims with the fishes? Especially since it was after I'd given my notice!

After I upgraded from the shop vac to a DC, I was cleaning the sawdust off my bench and discovered it had the power to suck in my calculator from about 18 inches away.

My shop/garage has a yard lite on the front gable. Don't know if it was the MOST interesting thing I every vac'ed, but the most usefull. Here in northern NY we have been plagued with an infestation of tent worms. After they pupate and turn into moths they naturally are attracted to a lite. Well!, for about 5 or 6 days each morning I'd go out and using my Ridgid shop vac with two wand extensions spend 30 minutes vac'ing up about a million moths. Really fun and hopefully helping cut down on next years crop of worms. Usually the few moths that land there each night the birds take care of, but birds won't touch these buggers. But I sure did!
