I read yesterday that Don was unable to do musicals because of his lack of singing ability. Could we be confusing Don with Jim Nabors?

      Thanks for the tip...

Just netflixed "Private Eyes"; the kids loved the Apple Dumpling Gang.

I'm always amazed when I hear the story about the start of the AG show. The original premise was just Andy as small town sheriff -- no Barney. Don Knotts approached Andy and essentially pitched his role. Can you imagine the AG show without him?

      Regards,
      Tom

Jim Nabors was goofy as heck, but a marvelous singing voice that seemed like it belonged on someone else. Don Knotts really could not sing a note. He lamented the fact, because he would love to have done musical theater.

          My favorite Barney quote

Andy and Barney are at a soiree in Mayberry (or was it Mt. Pilot?) and Barney is complaining that the women in attendance are not up to his aesthetic standards.

Barney: "Dogs, Andy, nothing but dogs."

          Andy: "Barney!"

Barney: "Come on, Andy. If you flew a quail through this room, every woman in here would point."

It was, and still is, the greatest comedy program in TV history.
