    Don Knotts

He passed away at the age of 81, He was a great comedian and straight man. He and Tim Conway were a real funny team together. Bill

Probably best known for "Barney Fife" but I agree his funniest stuff had to be with Tim Conway. "Apple Dumpling Gang" funny stuff.

      Sad day.

      Sad to hear the news.

Not many T.V. shows have stood the test of time like the Andy Griffith show. It lost a spark however when Don left the series. Barney Fife is one of my all-time favorite characters.

      R.I.P. Mr. Knotts.

Some of my fondest television memories include watching Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith Show, not to mention all the wonderful offbeat movies he was in..............He will be missed....

Bummer, that is a loss indeed.

I'll always remember him as Barney -- he was really amazing in that role. He picked up a few Emmy's for it, too.

            Regards,
            Tom

I came into existance near the end of the Steve Allen Shoe (1954 - 1961). As a big fan of the Andy Griffith show, I have learned that most of the regulars were talented and well respected performers before they "moved" to Mayberry.

Don was one of the best. He maybe be gone now, but he left us wonderful memories through his talents and gift of performance.

What most people don't know is that Don Knotts was also a talented tenor. He had a marvelous voice. THe Mayberry shows where he was singing in the church choir and had such a terrible voice were a deliberate play by the writers on his talent.

He appeared at the dinner theatre here while I was working at the hotel where he stayed. (first college try). He was truly a gentleman. He treated the staff with respect and courtesy and always had a pleasant greeting for everyone he met.

There will never be another one like Don Knotts. I hope they bury him with one bullet in his pocket.

Isn't it called "The Private Eyes"? I saw that one in the theater. That's the one where Tim Conway invented the alarm clock gun that went off once an hour.

The weird thing was, earlier this week I was thinking to myself, "Hmmm... Don Knotts is getting up there in age. I wonder when we'll lose him?"

                        He will truly be missed.

                            RIP, Deputy Fife.

I'm old enough to have grown up with these old B&W comedies. Nowadays most of them still in reruns seem impossibly corny, but Andy and Barney are still as funny as ever.

We also lost Darren McGavin over the weekend. He starred in several TV series (Riverboat, The Outsider, Kolchak: The Night Stalker) but is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Ralphie's father in "A Christmas Story."
