I got a little bit of Christmas yesterday. I found a box that had been lost for almost 7 years. It had 19 new router bits (most CMT) and a few other goodies.
It all goes back to the January '95 earthquake in Kobe that killed 6000 people. We had some damage to our house inside and outside but not major structural. We live about 25 miles from the epicenter. Getting cracks in the walls fixed was not a major concern for the insurance company or our organization as compared to those that lived closer to the epicenter. In December of '97, outside and inside repairs took place as well as some renovations such as new carpet.
I ordered the bits from the States and received them just before the repairs. I had them in our study/computer room. The carpenters and carpet layers came and moved and packed things - so that they could be moved from room to room as they worked. My box of bits, about 10 inches square, was put in another box that held old 33 record albums. It was sealed, marked "Records" on top (in English) and moved into another room. Then moved a couple of times in the past 7 years. Needless to say, we haven't listened to any records in a while!
Yesterday, in a storage room (bedroom that our daughters vacated) I looked at that box and noticed on the side it had in Japanese "tsuulusu" (tools) written, and gave a puzzled look at it. I opened it and there were my router bits, about $500.00 worth. 4 raised panel bits, 5 spiral bits of various sizes and others. Now my router center will have right at 100 bits!
I did not notice them missing until about 4 months later. For about a month, I searched EVERYWHERE, two, three, 4 times. Cleaned out tons of old stuff. By the time I was convinced that they were gone for good, I figured it was too late to file an insurance claim and chalked it up to experience!
Now I have some new toys. One item in there that I have looked for was some UHMW tape. Color me HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!
