Nifty s/w for a forum. Seems to be used by a number of places.
    Anyway guess things work.

    quickee name

Here's a quickie project finished in about 5 hours for a baby
party. Obviously his name is Harrison. The name is long so I
used smaller letters than usual making the detail a bit
    tighter than normal.

Step 1 - Compose in Microsoft word, 128 point type, and print it. I draw a solid bar underneath to tie it all together.

Step 2 - Glue it to the wood

Step 3 - Mark all the inside tight corners with a circle template,
label the size holes like the "S" here.

Step 4 - drill the holes on the DP using brad point bits

Step 5 - cut out the letters on the scroll saw, cut out the inside cuts, too.

Step 6 - Peel off the template, belt sand off the rest. clean
up the edges as best you can using 1" belt sander and needle files.

Step 7 - finish with a coat or two of tung oil then a clear
spray varnish several coats with a bit of sanding

Cool project. We have twins on the way, due in December. I'm definitely gonna have to do this one. Besides, it's the best shot I have at getting the wife to approve buying a scroll saw with diaper money (it's all diaper money now).

Heh, Harrison is my wife's maiden name -- wanna make one for my FIL?

I don't think I"d have the patience (or talent) for scroll saw work, but maybe someday I'll give it a try...

Nice, Loring. What font is that? It really seems to lend itself to this type of scroll work.

I like the Swashbuckling "O" and the swagger in the tops and bottoms of the letters (not flat top) like the A, H and R if you look closely.

let me know if you can't find it.

              Nice job

i also like cutting out thick plaques and designs on the scrollsaw
ive found using certain bits with a dremel works good for cleaning up the insides.(i usually have alot of cleaning in there as i tend to only use spiral saw blades)
long diamond bits and the sanding wheel are especially handy.sometimes nothin but an emery board will fit though.

              cool font btw
heres 1 i did with a sort of customized 'font' but i cut out the letter rather than the space around it,inverse i guess.

That's a very thoughtful gift for new baby. Might get him interested in wood working from the very beginning.

                      Loring,
Thank you so much for this post. My Father in law made my daughter one of those before he died, and A letter broke off of it and got lost somehow when she moved. I have been wondering how to repair this for her. Now I can.
                      Thank you.

They're not very expensive and the supplies (scroll saw blades) are real cheap. Not like a lathe that keeps on requiring new chucks, toolrests and chisels.[8)]
