    Toes into the dark side

I'm in love with the wood on the left. It was in a pen blank grab bag. Please tell me what it is!

Nice job, off to a great start. The color and grain remind me of bocote.

I recently cut some Redbud that looks like that, the lighter colored pen.

Itís pretty waxy, and smells like cow dung when I started to turn it.

Pretty sure it's bocote ------- man ---- this is beautiful wood!

Toughest darn wood I've ever touched.

This is much more affordable than furniture.

Warning #1 : it starts off like checkers; it ends up like chess.

Warning #2: It starts off costing like a Dollar General; it ends up costing like Cartier diamond.

My name is Richard. It had been 00 days since my last woodworking shopping spree.

It all all happened so fast,

Went to woodcraft and picked up a 90 degree elbow, and a Rikon dust bag.

I was doing fine fine until I saw the pile of 4:4 cherry cutoffs.

                          I feel so ashamed.......

What size to cut pen blanks? Iíve got a wheelbarrow full of drops from cutting Tiny Tables apron coves that I hate to throw away. Tell me the size and Iíll rough them out on the band saw and see whatís available, then if anyone wants them we will go from there.
