When I was at the Woodworking show in Houston recently (yes Jim I know I missed you guys, sorry) I ended it up the Craft Supply USA booth like I normally do. There I found just what I had been looking for even though I did not know I was missing them! As most of you know I like turning smaller objects and rarely turn above 4” round. The problem that I encounter is with my tools, seems as though my normal tools are kind of cumbersome on the mini lathe or even on the large lathe while working with smaller projects. I have a complete set of mini tools but they are too small and I find them a bit hard to work with. What I saw (and ended up buying) was some Henry Taylor tools that were mid-sized! They had them bundled in a 3 pack with a 3/8” Spindle gouge, Parting tool and a skew. They are very nice and fit my hand very well. Although I am a big man I don’t have big hands.
I really like Henry Taylor tools and I have about decided that they are my favorite. For you guys who do small kits, pens and other small projects you should take the time to check these new ones out. I don’t see them in the online catalog yet so if you make it to the Woodworking show be sure to take a look.
