    Ash

I needed to make a new one of the following items for the LOML, and I have a bunch of ash blanks I made from some ash I scored from a tree trimmer a while back; this one was originally destined to become a peppermill, but this need was greater. Finish is butcher block conditioner/wax. This was an everyday implement at one time, as some may remember (or still use, like we do). Any guesses?

I have no idea but it looks nice. I like the burned in lines that you did.

The only thing that comes to mind (and I can't believe this would be correct), but it looks like the pegs used to hold the rigging lines on a sailing ship, but it's probably some kind of kitchen implement. Maybe a pestle?

Is your wife a knitter by chance? Looks like an implement to wind a ball of yarn from a skein.

A Dibble. Used to make a hole for plants or bulbs. Now you can tell her to get her ash out in the yard and get busy. Nice work. Hmmm, maybe tell her to get her nice ash out there.

Looks like a pestle for a colander. That would be a cone shaped juicer.

We use ours, that was my mothers, and probably her mothers, to squeeze the juice out of tomatoes without getting the seeds in the juice.

Thanks for playing, and the kind comments. Paul and Carl got it, its a pestle, Carl nailed the specifics on use. We have the same canning sieve colander (Wearever #8), which we use to separate the meat/pulp from the seeds/skins of chili peppers for the salsa we make.

But I can see where Dan thought this a dibble - they are essentially the same shape, so I may make another as a dibble for LOML, to help her plant those chili pepper plants...

= Belaying pin. Very similar in appearance.

Ahhh, so that's why my wife got so upset. I wondered why she kept a dibble in the kitchen.
