    Need faceplate

My oldest son is quickly running out of time at school to make a bowl. He tells me that his woodshop class only has three lathes to use and he has not had his turn yet. He'll get a B or better even if he does not make a bowl but he wants to. He brought home a faceplate but it does not fit my little lathe. I'm looking for a 3/4 x 16 4" faceplate. If you have a spare you wish to sell cheap or a surpluss one from a no longer owned lathe I might be interested in it.

Do you have any other options available? Do you own a chuck that could be used? What about making a faceplate out of wood? Could you take a piece of plywood & drill a shallow 3/4" diameter recess in the back of the plate to match up to your lathe & then bolt clear through the center to secure it? You might want to double up the plywood. It might be a quick, cheap alternative.

What size is the faceplate? A thread adapter like what Woodcraft sold me to adapt my chuck should work...

The one he brought home is 1" threads, my lathe is 3/4", an adapter costs nearly as much as a faceplate from Penn State.

Hmmm. Penn State must have them cheap then. I got my adapter from Woodcraft for something like $8.00 about 2 years ago... Do you have a Woodcraft close by? You might want to check it out...

Mind you, I think the price for mine may have been bundled with the chuck now that I think of it...

~$16 plus nearly $8 shipping. Cost of faceplate vs adapter is within $2; if I buy either I'll just buy a faceplate.

Ouch... I guess it was a bundle deal then.

                  need a faceplate

Mark, sounds like the faceplate size you need for his bowl project is a 1"x8 TPI.
A common size for a bunch of lathes, should not be too expensive at Woodcraft
or Penn State if you go that route for one.

No sir the size I need is 3/4 X 16 tpi. which is not really a common size and shipped to my door would cost $25+. I was hoping someone had one in their junk drawer that they do not use anymore.

I have a 3/4 X 16 X 2 with three holes for mounting. Is that too small? (I have 2, so parting with 1 is not a problem.)

It has been mailed, USPS. The local post office said it would be there for Saturday delivery. It is possible that it "could" be there tomorrow.

And a thanks to you too - When I first read the request, I went to look for the box with my small lathe. I still have about 20 boxes (of tool items) unopened since they arrived from Japan. I have been looking for a particular medium size box that has my Ryobi 18V drill/driver, impact driver, flash light, and 3 batteries. I have looked and looked for over a month and couldn't find that specific box (all boxes are numbered). But in looking for the box with the face plate in it, I found the box with the Ryobi cordless items.

My daughter has taken over my 18V flashlight that I had here (USA) and now I have my USA Ryobi light that I had in Japan!

I have one from my first wilton lathe that is going to be used to make a beveler for another project some day and I don 't need the face plate and you're not too far away from me.
