Bad storm brings me good luck

My neighbor had an ash tree blow down in a storm a week ago. I was able to score a few pieces for projects. First thing I made was a bowl.

Hacked off a 1/2 slab piece with the chainsaw. Cut out a rough circle on the bandsaw. Mounted the bark side to the turning plate. Created the bottom of the bowl and a mortise to grab it by with the chuck. The swapped ends with the chuck mounted and hollowed out the inside of the bowl. I expect it might crack but I was just having fun.

Sure looks nice. No fractures in the Ash from wind? I have some Walnut and Ash from Ike that tends to blow up on the lathe every time a fracture is found...

That does look nice. Reminds me of a tortise shell from the shape and the bark edges.
