    Water Buffalo Blank

Just got back from Woodworking show. Not much there, very few people. The Crafts USA booth was there so I picked some Acrylic blanks and Jr Gent Blk Titanium Roller Ball kit. Also bought a Water Buffalo blank for the kit. Any Suggestion on turning this smelly blank. Also picked up some wood blanks from Cooks Hardwood. Tulip Wood, Koa, Kingswood.

some recommend soaking them in water for a day before turning. I turned mine in the raw, smells like burning hair as you are turning it. Some pieces have natural cracks in them, others will crack after you turn them. I'd let it rest for a day before assembling to make sure you don't need to do any repairs.

Now I'm really worried... Should've at least worn an apron.

UC, Horn is the same material (cellularly) that hair is made of, that's why the smell is similar. Atler on the other hand is bone, so it smells like drilling teeth. (same for ivory)

According to the CSUSA catalog these blanks have been stablized. What to you use to finish them? is probably what I should have asked. Now if my neighbor turned in the raw, that would be nice, me UG!

I've used CA/BLO on elk and deer antler with good results. I assume buffalo would be similar, but I have not tried it.
