This is going to be fun...

I got the Jet 1220VS yesterday at the Woodcraft sale. Unboxed and set up this afternoon. Just for grins I loaded up a scrap of oak and made a square stick round...sort of. It is going to take lots of practice, but man that was fun. If only it wasn't so danged cold...

I'd bet that your Woodcraft hosts meetings for at least one local turners' group. You might look into it. Those guys are usually very good with advice.

Yeah, they do, but they are held on Tuesday nights. Right now I am teaching a class for the local community college every Tuesday and Thursday night into May. The part-time money is a great supplement to the full-time IT gig, but the timing could be better

Then here's another suggestion... Contact the club, explain how much you want to learn, explain the Tuesday conflict, and I guarantee there will be offers from members for you to come hang out in their shops with them on other nights. You'll get to learn firsthand, and probably make a friend or two. Just bring a little extra turning stock to share from time to time.
