Thanks for the link will get on it this evening after our walk. Probably will not do any thurning till next week. This weeked is the local vintage race car party, so will go get the midget out of storage tomorrow and get it ready to race. I only get to do it maybe 6 time a year and this I have done it twice but his weeke is the biggie.

the skew takes some work to get used to. The one thing you don't want to do is get the long point near the wood when using it to shave. That's when you get a catch. but you do use the long point when you want to make a groove.

fine Woodworking has an issue dedicated to turning that came out earlier this year. If you can find a copy, it has alot of good info (and practices).

If at first you don't succeed, deny you were trying in the first place.

Yeah -- good tip on using the skew. The first time I used it, the long point caught up and bounced sending it off to carve a neat (but totally unwanted) spiral down the workpiece.

I'll have to look for that issue. I subscribe, but until I picked up this lathe, I've been trying to ignore all the lathe-related articles for fear I'd be uncontrollably motivated to go out and buy a lathe. Fortunately I had enough will power to wait until the $122/free shipping deal came along!

This is one of their special issues so you may not have it from your subscription. I'll get you the title and info once I get home tonight.

The skew got me the same way, that was probably the worst thing that happened to me the first day. I made a bunch of rookie mistakes but that was the scariest. Looking forward to the issue information. I think I saw it on Amazon in the book section or some I was surning through durning the past couple of days.
