    Christmas Candy dish/bowl

This isn't the first thing I've turned, but it's the first thing I've turned with a tutor to slap me up side the head and show me the correct way to do things. Top half is quilted maple and the bottom is mahogany. Not alot of fancy details but I'm pleased with the shape. Biggest thing is I learned something. First thing I learned is I need alot more practice
Thank you Russell from the SE Georgia WW Guild.

Finish is three coats of Watco danish oil followed by three coats of Mylands. Pat

Nice job, Pat! The two woods blend so well in that form.

I hope you're able to save the other glued-up blank and turn another nice piece!

Looks great Pat! I like the flowing form and the lumber combo. Was watching some turning dvd's and the guy mentioned (can not recall who) that a lot of time "less IS more" when it comes to turning and details.

Can not tell you how much lumber, that was intended to be something but turned into either projectiles or literal toothpicks. Happily it was mostly "junk wood"....scraps, limbs from storms and pruning. I start getting a little too confident and them WHAM....major catch and then you feel your back to square one LOL Getting to the point now that nice curls show themselves occasionally....now thats a treat!

          Have fun
          Steve

Pat I'll turn something one of these days that I can post a picture of. In 4 or 5 years probably. That piece looks great. Bill

Thanks for the kind words. Sometimes I feel like I'm reasonably competent at flat work but this turning stuff is very very humbling. Pat

I'd say your turning is coming along 'very' nicely Pat.

That is one great looking candy dish, and to think -- you've only been to one meeting so far.

Was that the one that was left out in the rain, Pat? Regardless, looks great!
                    Measure it with a micrometer...
                    Mark it with a crayon...

Yep, let it sit for a week to see if anything bad was gonna happen. It didn't Pat
