    Turned some Pine

I did My first turning on My lathe that I got from Habe. I really enjoyed making dowels out of squares. I am going to practice some more and then I believe We will take it to My Brothers house to start on the Christmas presents. He ordered 30 of those 4 in 1 screwdriver kits from Rockler so when I order some pen kits, we will be busy. Bill

Thanks Dick, I just thought it was time to try it out. I've got some other scrap woods that I want to learn on, before I actually try to make something. Bill

That is a good way to get rid of some scrap Bill.

I just found 2 pieces of oak about 12" long and 1 3/4" square. I am going to put these aside. I'll find some littler pieces. Bill

When I got my first lathe I also reduced all of the square scraps in the shop, mostly pine, into round stuff. I think using pine was a good thing because of how readily it shows when you are rubbing the bevel and when you are not. I learned a lot about using my turning tools on pine that paid off when the more expensive materials came along. I still load up a chunk of pine now and then just to see how I am doing with a tool or to pass the time when a piece of scrap just begs to go round...
