    Nice wood

Don't know about the quality of the turning as I'm just a beginner but I sure liked the wood on this one.

Here are some of my other attempts, haven't done hardly any flat work since I got the lathes.

I don't know about the beginner part, but that is one very nice collection of wooden bowls. As a group I think they show a good eye for form. Without exception they are all nice, but I must admit there's a couple in there that are really special.

I don't expect you'll have that whole collection together for long. As soon as family and friends see them, they will surely snap them up. If you want to keep some, maybe your next turning project should be a baseball bat to guard them with

      Nice work,

Thanks guys for the nice compliments. Mark the wood came form Randle Woods in Randle, WA. I tried to pick through the cheap wood and found that one piece, it turned really nicely compared to some of the other types of maple I've tried lately. I used Paduk for the rim amd the maple shows that quilt no matter how the light hits it.
Some of the maple I got there did'nt turn that gold color even though it had lots of figure, some stayed very pale. Different kinds of maple I guess.

For a beginner you sure turn like a pro. That is beautiful work.

Ken, we're fortunate to have two mini lathes, one for my son and one for me, and I picked up a Jet 1236 a while back. Not meaning to gloat just slipped out.
When I told Mark where I got my wood I ment only the Maple stock. The other woods were from Ebay or Woodcraft in Seattle.
The table under the bowls was a gift from a friend who knew I would appriciate the beautiful wood. Like I said I'm blessed.

beginner??? so you can make this kind of stuff on a mini? Like one of those for around $300??? I was looking at wood bowls at a store in the mall and they cost a fortune and look nothing like these? If they are selling them based on appearance these should sell for hundreds a piece because they look awsome. The ones at the store were just bowls made out of wood. Can you eat out of these?
