    Pliers

(Apologies - I originally put this under "tool REVIEWS" instead of the heading of "tools".)
    • I don't remember a review of "pliers" here or a discussion on them per se, but I have to give a nod for a Harbor Freight set that I got a couple of months ago:

These HF Icon brand are Knipex knock-offs but they sure work well. The price is hefty for HF "pliers" at around $21.99 but about $10 less than the Knipex. What I really like are two features:
      1. the teeth mesh giving a very good grip. I bought a pair of pliers way back in the early 70's in which the teeth meshed and I really liked the griping those pliers had. Then I lost them after about 10 years. They were my go-to pliers.
      2. these pliers have a dimple on the end that grabs the head of a screw and does a great job of holding on and getting the screw or small bolt out.

I haven't had a single set of pliers that worked this well overall in 50 years. I didn't realize that Knipex had similar or I would have bought theirs years ago.

I purchased a pair of the HF ICON 11 in. High-Leverage Diagonal Cutter. ($29.00)
Not pliers, but a comparable too. The high leverage handles (10”) are much easier to use with my old hands. They cut well. I will definitely purchase other Icon pliers.
Cons, they are long and tend to crawl out of you pocket when you are walking.

I haven't purchased any other Icon pliers but I have looked closely at them. They seem to have a higher quality about them than the normal HF tools.
